EXPERT, Alteryx / Tableau/ POWER BI ADMIN Data Platforms, GTS

BI administrator

Responsibilities:

This is a strong technology and support service delivery & operations role, accountable for installation, configuration and administration of Alteryx and Tableau platforms, user management tickets and all other 24 x 7 support and maintenance operations L1 / L2 / L3 activities.

The BI Platform Administrator will be responsible for maintaining and growing our Tableau and Alteryx platforms. The focus area of this position will be to advance the future state of self-service analytics.

Responsibilities:

  • Administer Microsoft POWER BI, Alteryx and Tableau platform and On-Premise Gateway, lead upgrade planning, configuration, and capacity planning
  • Coordinate with POWER BI, Alteryx and Tableau Premium Support and other IT team members when troubleshooting and resolving performance issues
  • Guide POWER BI, Alteryx and Tableau Dashboard developers and other colleagues during dashboard development using Alteryx and Tableau to establish and promote best practices for dashboard and data set development and -publishing (location, layout, dataset access, usage, security, performance tuning, naming conventions)
  • Optimize Workspaces and datasets to promote ease of self-service, and provide a secure, structured organization of workspaces, apps, data sets and dashboards
  • Work with business partners to migrate the existing workspaces and data sets into an organized catalog of information areas and data sets
  • Advance access control, and data security capabilities
  • Establish monitoring and service performance reporting together with operational teams
  • Automate data refreshes and other activities through scripting, and other means
  • Assess, build, and optimize new and existing reports and data visualization dashboard proto types using Alteryx and Tableau as required to triage issues, or to recommend improvements
  • Self-starter, can troubleshoot complex data problems, brings strong analytical skills with a focus on detail, thoroughness, and quality and must be a team player with strong attention to detail and able to work independently
  • Sees long term analytical business needs as primary focus, acts with a sense of urgency to resolve issues, identifies what needs to be done and takes action before being asked
  • Energetic about pushing the boundaries of what is possible, he she proposes and implements innovative improvement opportunities and ideas to evolve the BI platform
  • Has deployed and managed Alteryx and Tableau Premium in a mid-size organization, including managing users, Apps, Workspaces, and Content Packs (3 to 4 years of Alteryx and Tableau Premium, On-Prem Data Gateway, Administration experience at enterprise level in an environment with a large number of users)
  • Has proven experience performing POWER BI, Alteryx and Tableau On-Prem Data Gateway installation, upgrades and configurations
  • Has enjoyed 1-2 years of experience designing and optimizing effective BI data sets that connect to large data sources, and developing calculations
  • Enjoys dashboard development, and publishing reports in Alteryx and Tableau Premium capacities (please show work example during interview)
  • Is experienced with cmd and PowerShell scripting for automation
  • Has a solid understanding of Power BI, Alteryx and Tableau security capabilities (access control, data row-level security, use of roles to control sharing, publishing, data export)
  • Is proficient in SQL and experience in relational databases / data warehouses (Oracle, SQL Server)
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned
  • Respond to customer requests within expected Service Level Agreements and manage customer expectations
  • Review, document, troubleshoot and resolve customer's Alteryx & Tableau technical questions for the entire platform
  • Act as a facilitator and assist with the communication between customer and internal teams when escalating issues
  • Contribute knowledge to our platform support team
  • Will be required to perform upgrades, patch/fix, manage incident/problem tickets and participation in a 24/7 on-call rotation for Tableau and Alteryx platforms

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5+ years of IT experience as a Power BI, Alteryx and Tableau system administrator, data engineer, Alteryx and Tableau dashboard developer or similar
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience required
  • Strong analytical skills, attitude to learn and enjoys solving complex technical problems.
  • Experience managing database connections troubleshooting (e.g., SQL Server, Redshift, Oracle, Teradata, and/or Hadoop)
  • Experience using SQL or similar technology, understands the concepts of ODBC, Oracle's OCI, APIs and connection strings
  • Comfortable working in a Microsoft environment and Windows Operating System with ability to troubleshoot server environment and/or network communication issues
  • Ability to work with end-user customers directly in a courteous and professional manner
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical users
  • Ability to work in a fast-pace environment and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Knowledge of developing and scheduling jobs in Alteryx a plus
  • Experience with Business Intelligence development (Tableau, MicroStrategy, Cognos) is a plus
  • Experience with ETL tools (Informatica, IBM DataStage) is a plus
  • Experience maintaining and/or administrating computer hardware and software, file servers, firewalls and/or Active Directory is a plus
  • Experience using statistical programming tools and languages such as R, SAS, and Python is a plus
  • Experience with advanced modeling techniques to solve complex business decisions is a plus
