Summary
Understands complex and critical business problems from a variety of partners and business functions, formulate integrated analytical approach to mine data sources, employ statistical methods and machine learning algorithms to contribute solving unmet medical needs, discover actionable insights and automate process for reducing effort and time for repeated use. High agility to be able to work across various business domains. Integrate business presentations, hard-working visualization tools and contextual storytelling to translate findings back to business users with a clear impact. Independently set strategy, manage budget, ensuring appropriate staffing and coordinating projects within the area supervised. If managing a team: empowers the team and provides guidance and mentor, with limited guidance from more senior managers.
About The Role
Role Title: Data Scientist 2
Location: Hyderabad
Role Purpose
Working very closely with business partners on projects; interactions with business team member daily. Closely follow the business operations and the direct impact of work done. Has high learning agility and diligently follows updates in industry and area of work.
Key Responsibilities
- A variety of projects ranging from building boutique models from scratch to implementing industrial scale ML-based recommendation engines
- Most problems we work on are in the commercial space, and here are some typical ones:
- Customer segmentation and targeting, including using predictive features o Prediction of customer behavior (profiling product adoption or attrition, driving breadth and depth of adoption)
- Mapping patient journeys / treatment pathways and predicting patient progression.
- Evaluation of promotional campaigns, and optimization of promotional spend across channels (in future across messages)
- In the near future: Recommender system for Next Best Action across promotional tactics, NLP for automated mining of text heavy data
- A range of partners from very experienced data scientists to business stakeholders who must be pushed to adopt data-backed decision tools
- 50% time spent on working hands-on; less of data wrangling and more of providing ideas on and testing advanced techniques, taking into consideration the business situation and end goal. 50% time spent on providing functional guidance to teams of 10-15 data scientists / statisticians / programmers.
- Less people management responsibility (i.e. no administrative burden).This is not a Data Engineer or a Programmer role (though we have some of those as well at slightly junior levels)
Essential Requirements
- Good to have skills: Stochastic models, Bayesian Models, Markov Chains, Dynamic Programming and Optimization techniques, Deep Learning techniques on structured and unstructured data, Recommender Systems (content and collaborative filtering), etc.
- Tools and Packages: SAS, R, Python, SQL. Exposure to dashboard or web-apps building using Qliksense, R-Shiny, Flask, etc. would be added advantage
- Extensive experience required in: Statistical and Machine Learning techniques like Regression (esp., GLM, non-linear, etc.), Classification (CART, RF, SVM, GBM, etc.) Clustering, Design of Experiments, Monte Carlo Simulations, Statistical Inference, Feature Engineering, Time Series Forecasting, Text Mining and Natural Language Processing
Desirable Requirements
Education & Qualifications - PhD or Masters (or bachelors from a top Tier University) in a quantitative discipline (e.g. Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Ops Research, etc.)
Experience
- 10-12 years of relevant experience in Data Science. In case of PhD, 6 years post qualification experience. Experience in commercial pharma would be an added bonus.
