Job Description

Position Summary

Teach For India (TFI) is looking for a Development Operations Associate (DOA) to join the TFI US team housed in India. This is an operational role designed to build the backend systems, processes, and databases to support the fundraising, donor stewardship, and awareness-building efforts of Teach For India's non-profit entity in the United States, Teach For India US (TFI US), based in New York City. TFI US raised over $1M in the calendar year 2023 and aims to increase its goal by at least 70% in 2024.

The DOA will serve as one of the three team members of TFI US and will report directly to the Executive Director (ED) of TFI US based in New York City, and work closely with the International Development Manager based in India, and within the Development team in India. Considering TFI US is rapidly growing from a start-up to growth phase, in addition to playing the Operations role in ongoing fundraising activities, the DOA will have large scope to contribute towards setting up long term systems for TFI US including a CRM, and contribute to TFI US organizational learning and culture.

TFIUS is a rapidly growing organization. The scope of this role may evolve as the organization expands in the near future. As we set up the long-term organizational systems and processes and as the organization grows in the next few years, there is a high probability of role expansion and elevation in the near future.

Team Overview

Teach For India U.S. is a US-based not-for-profit organization that is bridging the education divide. Our mission is to eliminate educational inequity in India by providing grants to mission-aligned organizations such as Teach For India (TFI).

Responsibilities

Fundraising database management and reporting

  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of TFI US donor database (currently managed in Google Spreadsheets) by applying data entry protocol, performing regular data audits. Support the ED and the International Development Manager in project managing next steps based on the data management
  • Support the team in preparing and reviewing regular fundraising updates to the board via board meetings and fundraising committee meetings
  • With the support of the ED, lead the data transition to a CRM Software as decided. Once transitioned, manage and own accuracy and completeness of the donor database in the CRM
  • Liaise closely with the TFI Development Finance and TFI Finance team to provide grant information regularly needed between TFI US & TFI.

TFI US Systems and Infrastructure

  • TFI US Website
  • Work closely with the website designer to lead a content updation on the TFI US website in the first half of 2024
  • Post updation, work with the designer and the ED for ongoing website maintenance
  • TFI US Shared Google Drive
  • Maintain and manage the Knowledge Management System for Development
  • Maintain and regularly update TFI US profiles in corporate matching and other partner websites like Benevity, GlobalGiving, etc.
  • Support in securing high ratings in charity rating applications like Charity Navigator, et.al.
  • Assist the ED with annual processes such as external audits, preparation of tax filings, and budgeting

Ongoing Donor Prospect Research

  • Conduct ongoing research of donor prospects using fundraising softwares like foundation directory
  • Conduct and maintain accurate prospect research and historical notes of donors and prospects in the teams CRM

Outreach and Marketing material

  • Work closely with the International Development Manager in curating social media posts and growing the social media presence for Teach For India US
  • Assist the team in making high-quality decks for quarterly board meetings, board committee meetings, and other donor meetings

Other Operational Support to the team

  • Prepare and provide timely tax acknowledgment letters to donors
  • Help plan and manage special events including annual US roadshow of CEO, zoom donor appreciation group calls, and other fundraising activities conducted per the strategy
  • Work closely with the International Development Manager to operationalize any donor immersion experience for donors who travel to India
  • Maintain accurate board meeting minutes for quarterly board meetings, and other committee meetings

Other TFI US organizational commitments

  • Be a representative of TFI US in TFI Development spaces along with the International Development manager and together enable smoother collaboration between the teams
  • Support TFI US in furthering other TFI organizational priorities such as contributing to recruitment in the US and mobilizing alumni in the US as needed
  • Engage in ongoing growth and development
  • Participate in agile work and projects, as assigned

Other TFI organizational commitments

  • Operate with a deep commitment to TFI core values, including fostering a diverse movement and be a cultural leader
  • Hold up commitments as assigned as a TFI staff member like reporting to Head of Development in India, or any assigned fellowship recruitment, etc.
  • Represent TFIs strategy and vision as needed in TFI US spaces and as the sole and important representative of TFI in TFI US spaces

Minimum Qualifications, Experiences and Expectations

  • Graduate (in any stream) with 0-3 years of full-time work experience preferably in client-facing, operational, or management roles.
  • Commitment to Teach For Indias mission and values
  • Aptitude and interest to work with large data sets and numbers to problem-solve.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills and ability to analyze complex data sets from varied sources (both quantitative and qualitative).
  • Mastery over Microsoft Office, Google Workspace/GSuite, Salesforce
  • High attention to detail, with a belief in the importance of the little things
  • Commitment to excellence, accuracy, attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects and timelines efficiently with minimal oversight, and learn quickly on the job
  • Excellent project and time management skills: Highly organized with the ability to set clear plans and adapt them when required to ensure you meet ambitious project goals within clear timeframes
  • Growth-oriented mindset and a drive to develop self as well as to challenge and improve existing systems and approaches
  • Communication skills (written and verbal in English)
