About this role
BlackRock's Fundamental Equity (FE) team actively manages portfolios built on proprietary research with the goal of delivering consistent outperformance to our clients. We offer access to the opportunities, information, and resources available to a global asset manager combined with the agility of autonomous investment teams.
BlackRock has an exciting opportunity for an Associate to join the FE team in Gurgaon. You will play a key role in supporting our data initiatives, collaborating closely with the Quantitative Alpha Research Group team in the US Income & Value strategy team, and other data science & engineering projects across our team.
This role offers the chance to gain valuable experience designing, optimizing, and maintaining complex ETL processes and data visualizations for BlackRock Fundamental Equity. Working closely with other members of the investment team, candidates should possess expert data engineering skills, as well as a proven track record to work in collaboration with a wide range of partner teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for maintaining, designing, and optimizing complex data solutions for BlackRock's Fundamental Equity team.
- Make enhancements that improve team's data architecture, making it better and easier to maintain (e.g., data auditing solutions, automating ad-hoc or manual operation steps)
- Actively document code and log scheduled processes.
- Own the data quality of key datasets and any new changes/enhancements.
- Support quantitative research processes including optimization and stock screening.
- As a problem solver, seek out opportunities and propose solutions to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Make appropriate trade-offs, re-use where possible, and be judicious about introducing dependencies.
Qualifications
- Around 4-6 years of work experience, preferably with high-reliability analytical processes within financial services
- Experience building data ingestion and transformation pipelines (ETL) and be able to design processes to extract and optimize data efficiently.
- Experience with complex queries to read, write, and optimize on large relational databases.
- Capable of defining own design and test scenarios
- Knowledgeable about data mining, data analytics, data modeling
Skills And Experience
- High proficiency in Python and SQL with ability to make efficient design choices.
- Solid foundational understanding of statistical analysis; SAS proficiency is a plus.
- Familiarity with Copilot tools is a plus.
- Able to explain complex technical concepts in plain language to nontechnical audience.
- Highly motivated & determined with the ability to work independently and self-learn.
- Superb attention to detail & passion for data, preferably financial market data
- Work closely with a small team as well as more broadly within an organization where information-sharing is critical to the success of all teams across asset classes.
Educational Qualifications
- Computer Science degree/STEM background from a reputed university
