Gear up to become responsible for the complete credit granting procedure, and this will also involve the reliable application of a credit policy, apart from periodic credit reviews of current customers, and the valuation of the creditworthiness of potential customers, with the goal of optimizing the mix of the organization's sales as well as losses. A credit manager primarily needs to look at maintaining a department organizational structure sufficient to meet all goals and objectives. Apart from that s/he will be expected to keep the credit and collections staff motivated enough so that they do their jobs well. The credit manager's job is also to measure the department's performance with suitable metrics. Training the credit staff also falls under the purview of a credit manager's job. Managing proper relationships with collection agencies and also with credit reporting agencies is also the credit manager's responsibility. Added to that, the credit manager should also have great interpersonal skills to be able to cater to credit insurance providers and the sales departments too. Maintaining the corporate credit policies is also the lookout of the credit manager. Apart from this, s/he can also recommend changes in the policies to the senior management. The candidate applying for the credit manager job should be adept in working in a fast paced environment. S/he should also be ready to travel to customer locations as and when the need arises. A bachelor's degree in business and some amount of experience with credit storing systems will be a pre-requisite for the aspirant.
