Role Definition

Designs and implements new process or updates to existing processes to improve end to end value chain performance. Develop a network value-stream model that depicts current state value chain network and may compare to alternate network configurations (future state).

Responsibilities

  • Analyzing the inbound, value add and outbound value chains to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Developing business cases and capability studies, recommending improvements to stakeholders.
  • Implementing new and enhanced processes and tools and governing changes through collaboration across multiple workstreams to ensure alignment.
  • Identifying process inefficiencies and wastes of time, money, materials, and energy.

Business Process Design: Knowledge of business process design; ability to develop appropriate techniques to re-examine key processes and focus on optimizing organizational performance.

Level Working Knowledge:

  • Carries out business process design tasks with some supervision and coaching.
  • Uses a variety of business process design tools and techniques.
  • Examines, interprets, and explains work-flow materials and documentation.
  • Documents common obstacles and barriers for effective implementation.
  • Analyzes a process and associated business logic and offers recommendations based on analysis.

Business Process Improvement: Knowledge of business process improvement best practices and ability to use methods for identifying, evaluating, introducing and implementing more efficient approaches to performing business related activities.

Level Working Knowledge:

  • Gathers data for use in the analysis of business processes.
  • Illustrates problems, opportunities and methods for improving existing business processes.
  • Suggests ways to reduce variation and/or waste in processes.
  • Helps evaluate what factors should be addressed in the change program.
  • Participates in requirements analysis for process changes.

Process Management: Knowledge of business process improvement tools and techniques; ability to understand,

monitor, update, control, or enhance existing business or work processes.

Level Working Knowledge:

  • Employs process flows, cycle time, process time and waste concepts as appropriate.
  • Walks through steps, decisions, measurements, dependencies and hand-offs for a specific process.
  • Creates process flow or work flow diagrams.
  • Documents types of process decisions and potential impact of each decision.
  • Identifies and monitors common process bottlenecks.

Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.

Level Working Knowledge:

  • Approaches a situation or problem by defining the problem or issue and determining its significance.
  • Makes a systematic comparison of two or more alternative solutions.
  • Uses flow charts, Pareto charts, fish diagrams, etc. to disclose meaningful data patterns.
  • Identifies the major forces, events and people impacting and impacted by the situation at hand.
  • Uses logic and intuition to make inferences about the meaning of the data and arrive at conclusions.

Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.

Level Working Knowledge:

  • Delivers helpful feedback that focuses on behaviors without offending the recipient.
  • Listens to feedback without defensiveness and uses it for own communication effectiveness.
  • Makes oral presentations and writes reports needed for own work.
  • Avoids technical jargon when inappropriate.
  • Looks for and considers non-verbal cues from individuals and groups.

Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.

Level Working Knowledge:

  • Identifies and documents specific problems and resolution alternatives.
  • Examines a specific problem and understands the perspective of each involved stakeholder.
  • Develops alternative techniques for assessing accuracy and relevance of information.
  • Helps to analyze risks and benefits of alternative approaches and obtain decision on resolution.
  • Uses fact-finding techniques and diagnostic tools to identify problems.

Process Mapping/Flowcharting: Knowledge of the concepts of process mapping; ability to carry out the documentation of current and proposed manufacturing processes to identify and make improvements.

Level Extensive Experience:

  • Uses a wide variety of process mapping tools and techniques.
  • Creates maps for processes that involve multiple people and departments.
  • Selects the appropriate type of map for the manufacturing process.
  • Defines the process boundaries; lists and sequences steps.
  • Guides on the application of ovals, boxes, diamonds, and arrows, as needed.
  • Provides solutions to redundancies and gaps in processes.

Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Knowledge of the concepts, principles and techniques of root cause analysis (RCA); ability to use a structured approach to identify the causes of undesirable consequences in a manufacturing environment and the changes needed to prevent recurrences.

Level Working Knowledge:

  • Utilizes RCA techniques, such as Flowchart, Fish-bone Diagram, etc., to investigate basic problems, determine the causes, and find resolutions.
  • Locates factors that resulted in harmful outcomes of one or more past events.
  • Pinpoints behaviors, actions, inaction, or conditions that need to be changed.
  • Extrapolates lessons to be learned to promote the achievement of better consequences.
  • Practices RCA as an iterative process.
