Manages the Transportation Service Provider services provided by Caterpillar contracted service providers for the shipment of Caterpillar components and machines domestically and overseas. Identifies, investigates, and resolves problems with shipments to ensure accurate and on-time delivery to facilities, and develops initiatives to improve service and lower cost.
JOB DUTIES:
Scope, design, operate, day-to-day services and implement transportation service solutions. Coordinate problem resolution with Caterpillar facilities and approved Service Providers with regards to transportation services.
Identify, develop and administer the implementation of improved transportation methods that support Caterpillars cost and service objectives and goals, to ensure best results for Caterpillar and Cat Dealer organizations.
Manages the performance of these Service Providers through Key Performance Indicators to meet cost and service performance expectations from Caterpillar facilities, Suppliers and Distribution Centers.
Identifies, analyzes, develops and implements improved transportation methods that support Caterpillars quality, velocity and cost objectives.
Identifies areas of possible cost savings or improvements in service, associated with the contracted Service Providers.
Coordinates impact analysis and implementation of cost effective solutions with Providers
Create scenario modeling and execute the Global Transportation Procurement Strategy based on Core Carrier Strategy to perform cost benefit analysis of the data from bids.
Make recommendations for the optimal service provider to Buyers and/or Analyst. Develop, implement and manage a process for Global Air Freight using the online procurement tool.
Develop and maintain a Spend Management tool for carriers/providers including what should be tracked and reported and how this information will be maintained. Facilitate all introduction and review meetings between Service Providers/Carriers and Buyers.
Assists in alleviating overburden, recommending reassignment of responsibilities between assignments and makes work improvement suggestions such as employee cross training, procedural changes, etc. as necessary.
Works closely with and facilitates meetings for Buyer and Analyst personnel to maintain rates and contracts and provide updates within the online procurement tool.
Maintains a contact database for all Global Service Providers /Carriers for Air, Ocean, Freight Forwarding, and Customs Brokerage.
Confers with Legal to determine if the contracts are in the proper form and have the proper document retention and signatory approvals.
Communicates updates to Legal and to Compliance. Monitors and control all new contracts, terminations and amendments and maintain a status log of such.
Computes BAF (Bunker Adjustment Factor) and initiate the changes that are required globally via the online procurement tool. Update data and run reports for financial impact on special projects and department cost savings.
The incumbent is responsible for achieving and maintaining disciplines relative to production control functions and participating with the implementation of NPI projects for these specific processes.
The incumbent manages the completion of own work assignments and coordinates work with others.
Typical internal customers include employees from two or more work groups in a Division.
External customers include; Global Carriers, Freight Forwarders, Customs Brokerage and Air Freight Providers.
The position is challenged to quickly and correctly identify problems.
The incumbent generally resolves issues by following departmental guidelines or applying a solution that worked in the past.
The incumbent is free to determine the best way to complete job assignments in order to achieve desired results.
Work is reviewed after completion, except in the most complex or high impact situations.
Impacts key quality goals including Customer Satisfaction, Continuous Improvement, Timeliness, Accuracy, Efficiency, Cost Savings, Process Quality, Office Certification, etc.
Limited travel required (Less than 5% of working time).
BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:
The position requires experience in and/or equivalent knowledge of various Operating, Distribution, Transportation, Contracting, Warehouse Consolidation and Forwarding.
A working knowledge of a rate management systems and/or procurement tools such as Pelyco and/or GT Nexus or Paralegal skills are desired.
Strong understanding of international supply chain, both physical flow and data flow including ocean carriers, air carriers, truck carriers, rail carrier s freight forwarders, and Customs brokers.
PC skills are a must and the Job Holder must be well organized, a self-motivated and can multitask against multiple deadlines.
Requires a college or university degree or equivalent experience and a minimum of 3-5 years experience in Transportation and/or Logistics.
Excellent human relations skills are required to co-ordinate activities, change processes, identify improvements and cost saving ideas with service providers, internal and external Clients.
Personal computer skills and familiarity with various transport & network design software packages (i.e. i2, CAST) may be required.
Facility in a foreign language would be a benefit.
