Complete job description The piping designer will work with the engineering project teams to complete 2D and 3D layouts and designs of process equipment including piping, instrumentation and vessel diagrams.
Accountabilities:
- Assist in the design and layout activities on projects under the direction of a Lead Designer
- Use PDS/ PDMS and AutoCAD in all aspects of the design and layout of skid packages
- Complete equipment layout, piping layout, general arrangement drawings, piping isometrics, and structural detail drawings
- Evaluate the scope of work using P&IDs and specifications to design piping systems while adhering to plant design standards
- Display a working knowledge of industry standard drafting practices, good mechanical aptitude and general knowledge of engineering
- Work is generally performed in an office environment; however, short term field assignments may be required
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor Degree in Mechanical / Marine Engineering. (or Diploma with addl. 7+ years experience)
Minimum of 8 years of experience in the Oil and Gas Industry
Minimum 4 years of 3-D modeling experience
Minimum 4 years AutoCAD (release 2010 or later) mm and Microsoft Office software
Responsibilities and Authorities
- Familiarize with the scope of work. Monitor changes in scope of work and raises change notification to the Lead Engineer.
- Prepare / Review of engineering documents like calculations, specifications, philosophies, datasheets and drawings to ensure compliance with specification and functional integrity.
- Provide technical directions and inputs to drafting personnel.
- Carry-out single discipline checking of discipline documents / deliverable for the project.
- Carry-out IDC for other discipline document / deliverables as per the approved IDC matrix.
- Co-ordinate with other discipline / departments.
- Attend Project review meetings and project co-ordination meetings in the absence of Lead Engineer.
- Participate in technical review meetings (like piping 3D model review etc.)
- Review of Vendor documents.
- To implement QMS within the discipline.
- To ensure Quality Control throughout the discipline, works with the Quality Management System and participate in regular quality audits.
- Follow all applicable procedures and work instructions.
- Keep continual improvement as a goal and apply Lessons Learnt on the past projects for better performance.
- Review of Piping design document.
- Preparation of piping specifications and data sheets.
- Review of piping vendor drawings and final engineering deliverables
- Review of all piping 3D Model.
- Checking of Stress analysis report.
- Review of piping support, MTO, Layouts, Isometrics etc.
Skills:
- Good knowledge of the relevant Piping & Plant Layout codes and standards.
- Technical knowledge of engineering systems, engineering calculations, etc.
- Knowledge of project controls within discipline.
- Fluency in English Language, spoken and written.
- Ability to work in multi-disciplinary project teams environment.
- Good inter-personal leadership, coaching, communication and presentation skills.
- Highly experienced engineer with sound technical background and expertise
- Experienced in planning, progress monitoring, forecasting and reporting.
- Competent in commercial, contractual and administrative aspects of engineering.
- Experienced in estimating man-hours and materials for most aspects of work.
- Experienced in working with other disciplines and sections to meet delivery dates.
- Highly experienced in quality control requirements and quality assurance for engineering work.
- Experienced in design safety / environmental requirements, procedures and responsibilities for both self and subordinates
- Competent in leading, supervising and the organization of a small/medium sized single discipline team within a project.
