As a Technical Publications Data Support, you will:
- Support an important Technical Publications group with data migration, system support, productivity enhancements, and process automation.
- Analyze client data structures, troubleshoot data issues, and transformation of XML/SGML to compliant industry formats.
- Support technical publications team concerning data, software and customer issues as they arise and to improve quality and productivity.
- Interface with Flatirons Customers, Flatirons Support, Flatirons Hosting, and Flatirons Engineering.
The following are detailed responsibilities of the Systems Support and Data Engineer:
- Analyze XML/SGML data structures for our production team including maintenance, repair, configuration and operations documentation.
- Consult with members of the software support teams to resolve production problems
- Engage end-users, pertinent customer stakeholders as necessary
- Coordinate deployment activities with various customer stakeholders
- Participate in process improvement initiative(s) to develop/carry out organizational process improvements for data engineering and technical support
- Perform user-based system updates on tools and software utilized by production teams.
- Provide input, testing, and oversight on publication teams related tools and software development.
- Provide 1 st -level triage of production issues. Escalating and providing technical insight and information to developers as required to resolve issues that could not be resolved locally.
- Ability to design, modify and develop data transforms using XSLT and Python
- Migrate customer supplied data to in-house systems to be turned over to the production team for use.
- Provide recommendations to customers on best practices and suggested direction and solutions as needed.
- Ability to grasp data flow concepts to identify where the process is failing.
- Assist the production teams when data seems to be an issue rather than the software and assist them on what can be done to correct it.
- Assist support teams when software seems to be an issue and help them troubleshoot and provide needed content so they may address the problem.
- Ability to create sample data packages of the issues rather than supplying entire publications to process to lessen the burden of the production processes.
- Ability to create custom solution scripts like urgent data changes before delivery, data mining of publications to identify content issues, or the ability to modify and possibly create new quality and process tools as needed.
- Provide system access and permissions to users as needed .

Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor on all activities within the areas of responsibility. Ability to meet strict deadlines, while producing high quality deliverables. Well organized, dynamic, able to multitask and change focus quickly when required. Ability to quickly learn new technologies. Knowledge of aerospace documentation standards. Good understanding of iSpec 2200 and S1000D standards. 3+ years data analysis experience SGML and XML/XPath/XSLT/XSL-FO experience BS/BA in Computer Science or directly related field (desired) 3+ years related experience (airlines/aerospace industry desired)
