Job Description

Role Summary

The ATP Project Manager manages the planning and execution of projects for their assigned lines of business in accordance with industry best practices and specific customer requirements. The Project Manager will drive the annual project planning for their lines of business in support of overall organizational strategic objectives. The Project Manager will manage a team of project leads in their month to month project activities to achieve the objectives for their lines of business as defined in the annual organizational project plan.

This position requires close interaction with the Director of Operations and other functional departments within the company, including but not limited to: Program Management, Resource Management, Quality Management, Technology Management, Strategic Account Management and Pre-sales Engineering as follows:

  • Program Management Collectively establish initial project schedules in correlation with customer requirements, to communicate project status, and to raise issues/concerns that need to be taken to the customer.
  • Resource Management Determine headcount requirements by role by business line, to communicate resource performance information on owned projects, and to identify specific resources for cross-utilization training.
  • Quality Management Identify quality concerns and to recommend production process improvements.
  • Technology Management Escalate production tools issues that affect project completion, and to participate in the recommendation, implementation, and evaluation of tools to improve productivity of projects.
  • Strategic Account Management and Pre-sales engineering - Provide level of effort estimates on demand for new business development and existing customer expansion and to provide assumptions and constraints verbiage for Statement of Work (SOW) and Project Change Request (PCR) documents.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the monthly list of deliverable projects by line of business in correlation with the organizational strategic objectives, available pipeline, hard completion date requirements from customers, and in accordance with monthly page count and revenue targets.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the assigned project leads.
  • Serve as escalation point and decision maker for assigned project leads with regards to costs, resources, etc.
  • Manage level of effort estimates for all production roles and tasks required for successful completion of projects for assigned lines of business.
  • Direct activities of assigned project leads on assigned lines of business in support of deliverable development.
  • Make decisions on moving project completion dates in/out (schedule adjustments) based on shifting customer priorities and ongoing status of projects in process.
  • Drive continual process improvement by continually evaluating the primary deliverable development process, then identifying and initiating changes in areas for strategic improvements/efficiency gains.
  • Meet financial margin and on-time fidelity targets for assigned lines of business.
  • Provide comprehensive and easy to understand status information, at regular intervals, to the Director of Operations, for assigned lines of business.
  • Clearly communicate expectations to all assigned project leads, continually monitor their performance to those expectations, and provide appropriate feedback as applicable.
  • Develop level of effort estimates on demand in support of business development efforts from the pre-sales and strategic account management teams.
  • Understand and adhere to all requirements of the Quality Management System and the Information Security Management System.

  • Must be able to multi-task and manage multiple lines of business effectively at the same time, independently.
  • Must be extremely well organized and have a comprehensive, proven methodology for time management.
  • Must be a confident, quick-thinking, independent problem solver who escalates issues only after exhausting all other options.
  • Must be extremely detail oriented, particularly with regards to maintaining large amounts of content in a living and continually morphing database.
  • Must be a decisive leader who is comfortable taking control in a room full of professional project leads.
  • Must be a strategic decision maker with the ability to weigh options on the fly and quickly take the proper direction based on available information.
  • Must have exceptional communication skills, including outstanding professional email communication capability as well as articulate and properly toned verbal delivery skills.
  • Must have a comprehensive understanding of workflow process, preferably in a documentation development or high-tech production scenario.

Education And Experience Requirements

  • 10+yrs in aero technical publication or any related domain, with 5+ yrs on managing projects and teams.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent related experience preferred.
  • Experience managing multiple multi-faceted projects at the same time with no or minimal oversight.
  • Experience with workflow process tools preferably in a highly fluid production-oriented environment.
  • Familiarity with aircraft/aerospace, semiconductor, and/or hi-tech industries is a plus.
  • Familiarity with ATA iSpec, S1000D, and MIL standard concepts, practices, and procedures within technical publications, illustrations development, E-learning development, or instructor-led training realm is a plus.
  • Required Computer Skills: Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project, experience using Confluence or similar shared-space wiki is a plus
  • Experience using Business Process Management (BPM) software is a plus.
