Job Description

We are looking for a Tax Analyst for our Global Tax Operations team to support colleagues from regional and central tax teams with tax reporting, analytics and data management.

You will have the opportunity to support various tax processes. You will become a key team member in tax reporting processes and gain an overview about income tax processes across multiple jurisdictions within APAC. You will act as business partner for regional tax managers and support them in preparation and review of quarterly tax reporting packages and preparation of data for corporate income tax returns. As part of the Global Tax Operations Team, you can also contribute to global process optimization and tax projects.

About The Role

Your key accountabilities in this role would be:

  • Performing elements of Swiss Re Global Tax processes, including:
    • Preparation of tax packs and first level analytical review of the results under IFRS principles and statutory tax rules
    • Tax account reconciliations, tax bookings and tax payments
    • Managing data delivery for income tax compliance, including data aggregation, preparation of data packages and liaison with finance teams, regional tax teams and outsourcing providers
    • Preparation of recurring direct, indirect tax and WHT returns and filings
    • Partnering with Regional Tax Experts and Finance on preparation for queries and audits by tax authorities, as applicable
  • Independently managing deadlines / timetables to ensure accurate and timely delivery of tasks
  • Maintaining a regular dialogue with stakeholders to keep up to date with business development and tax law developments
  • Establishing proficiency in Swiss Re finance and IT systems and Tax tools
  • Undertaking ongoing reviews of income tax processes and documentation to identify areas for improvement and efficiency including internal controls
  • Participating in tax projects, supporting implementation of changes and automation of tax processes and controls, including User Acceptance Testing and preparation of process documentation
  • Liaising with internal finance departments, external outsourcing partners and other stakeholders
About The Team

With Swiss Re's regional head office for Asia domiciled in Singapore as a home office for all Asia branches, the Finance Reinsurance Asia team continues to grow its capability to fully cover the finance deliverables across all entities in the region and also the Corso APAC countries, totalling in a presence in 8 different countries across Asia Pacific. The team ensures the accurate and timely reporting across multiple valuations to the internal governance bodies, board of directors and management committees, and to the various external regulators and tax authorities across the jurisdictions.

The mandate of the Tax Operations APAC team in Bangalore is to deliver on the tax related requirements within the APAC region and continue to build-up tax knowledge within the team to enable the effective integration between the on-shore regional tax teams and the local Hub. As part of Swiss Re's Global Tax Operations, a team that supports tax compliance and reporting for over 20 countries globally, the Tax Operations APAC team also contributes to optimization and standardization of Swiss Re's global processes and tax projects.

Your role will be to undertake the tax matters across Asia Pacific countries, with focus on direct tax processes. In this role, the Tax Analyst will partner with the Regional Tax Experts, as well as work closely with the Regional and Global Finance function and the Business across our Asia Locations in ensuring smooth delivery of tax reporting, compliance and other tax deliverables.

About You

You will have the following:

  • Chartered Accountant, Certified Management Accountant, CPA, Masters specialized in finance and accounting
  • 4+ years of relevant corporate tax work experience (both direct and indirect tax), preferably with a multinational corporation
  • Insurance and reinsurance knowhow and previous experience in the areas of Local GAAP/IFRS accounting principles are an advantage
  • Ability to perform independently and demonstrate ownership and accountability
  • Strong analytical skills with interest in information system, reports and data
  • Strong problem solving, organization, and communication skills and ability effectively liaise and coordinate information across global teams.
  • Enthusiasm, high energy and willingness to work in a dynamic environment, embracing new challenges and striving to continuously improve technical know how
  • Excellent social skills, open-mindedness and experienced in working in virtual teams with people from different backgrounds and cultures, with ability to share knowledge with colleagues
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications with a willingness to learn new programs, hands on experience with SAP is a plus
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal, is a must.
