Job Purpose
The Systems & Storage Engineer will be responsible for the build out, maintenance, and incident resolution of our rapidly expanding infrastructure. The Systems & Storage Engineer will be part of a talented team of engineers that demonstrate superb technical competency and impressive work ethic to deliver mission critical infrastructure, while ensuring the highest levels of availability, performance, and security.
The successful candidate will have the capabilities to demonstrate in an interview their ability to perform advanced VMware troubleshooting and administration. The candidate must also possess a strong understanding of server and storage architecture, network protocols, operating systems, and virtualization technologies. He/She also needs to have significant experience in Storage Management software, backup solutions, and performance monitoring tools.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Administration and optimization of VMware hosts and virtualized servers. Responsible for the general health, security, and ongoing version upgrades.
- Administer Microsoft Windows servers to ensure secure, streamlined baseline templates, optimized performance, and troubleshoot issues as needed from the physical layer through the software tier.
- Planning and implementing storage solutions such as SAN, NAS, and object storage to meet organization needs.
- Provision and allocate Storage to Server assets including assignment of RAID level, LUN, and VOLUME configuration.
- Perform tasks related to storage provisioning and host integration.
- Responsible for overall Storage Administration, including periodic maintenance, monitoring and daily support of enterprise storage Infrastructure on both On-Prem and Cloud Environment.
- Perform ongoing storage capacity management.
- Proactively manages storage firmware and operating system levels to ensure vendor and security team's recommended versions and patches are applied.
- Support problem resolution efforts for storage performance, ACL, and other concerns across multi-vendor, multi-data center Storage Infrastructure.
- Support physical server hardware from various vendors either in-person or through out-of-band access technologies
- Manage server infrastructure tools such as patching, antivirus products, backup, and vulnerability scanning.
- Clearly document the design, maintenance, and support procedures for routine tasks to leverage IT Support Staff
- Provide support for mission-critical systems to ensure smooth business operations and act as an escalation point for Support Technician staff
- Contribute to cloud migration activities using cloud infrastructure services, like EC2, EBS, RDS, ALB, S3, EFS.
- Ensure data stored in AWS S3, EBS, RDS, EFS are encrypted and in compliance to corporate security policy.
- Assist in maintaining, documenting, and improving upon Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Plans
- Support application and environmental issues associated with the server network with appropriate system logs.
- Contribute to long term design strategy and roadmap, server architecture, establishment of engineering standards and best practice guides
- Ensure high availability by performing KTLO Keep The Lights ON activities periodically.
- Comply with HIPAA and HITech Privacy and Security regulations associated with Electronic Protected Health Information (ePHI)
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related field, equivalent work experience
- Minimum 8+ years of experience in server, storage, network domains.
- Hands-on, VMware vCenter experience in an enterprise environment.
- Experience with Microsoft Windows Operating System supporting IIS, SQL server, and other applications.
- Experience implementing server hardware and managing NAS/SAN technology.
- Experience in Enterprise Storage infrastructure (EMC, Unity XT, Powerstore, HPE StorageWorks, Synology, NETAPP, etc.)
- Experience in configuring and managing cloud storage services such as Amazon S3, EBS, EFS, etc.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule and weekends as needed.
- Industry certification(s) such as VMware VCP, Microsoft MCSA or MCSE, AWS.
Skills
- Strong experience of VMware ESX with the ability to demonstrate proficiency across installation, patching, customization, capacity management, advanced troubleshooting, and maintenance of vSphereESXi, vCenter, and other components within VMware.
- Expert knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server Operating Systems in an enterprise environment with hands-on experience using native and third-party tools to investigate issues
- Significant experience implementing and troubleshooting Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
- Experience in managing Storage or Datastore Cluster environment.
- Significant experience in configuring and maintaining storage arrays, switches, and storage management software.
- Proficiency in configuring and managing storage arrays, switches and protocols (e.g. Fibre Channel, FCoE, iSCSI, NFS, DFS, SMB/CIFS)
- Familiarity with backup and disaster recovery solutions and best practices.
- Significant experience in implementing data migration to transfer data from on-premises systems to the cloud.
- Ability to troubleshoot issues using tcpdump, pcap, Wireshark and other analysis tools.
- Experience in Troubleshooting Hardware related issues and a strong understanding of SAN technology
- Experience monitoring server and application performance and availability utilizing monitoring tools such as PRTG.
- Must work well with a geographically disperse team. Seeking collaborative team players willing to both learn from as well as train others as the situation dictates.
- Exceptional Customer Service and communication skills, both verbal and written with the ability to effectively and efficiently present technical information
