Job Description

Summary

The Supervisor ScrumMaster, DevOps will lead and be the ScrumMaster for a team of software developers and DevOps engineers responsible for solving complex business problems in a fast-paced, collaborative, and iterative delivery environment.

The Supervisor ScrumMaster, DevOps will have overall managerial responsibilities of Agile teams including but not limited to DevOps engineers and software application developers.

The Supervisor ScrumMaster, DevOps is responsible for managing, maintaining, and maturing JDS DevOps practice playing a crucial role in ensuring smooth delivery and collaboration within agile teams.

The Supervisor ScrumMaster, DevOps will lead successful DevOps projects that shapes the development, deployment and production process and provides Project Management (Agile, Kanban) to the overall DevOps Capability.

In the day-to-day work, the Supervisor ScrumMaster, DevOps will lead a team of DevOps engineers, developers and testers and provide coaching, mentoring while taking an active hands-on role as the Scrum Master delivering features in increments.

The Supervisor ScrumMaster, DevOps will collaborate with internal Information Technology teams such as Enterprise Architecture, Engineering, Networking, Data, Application Development, Integration to deliver applications (in increments) by building and nurturing an operable and stable DevOps practice to empower JDS/Hollister to scale effectively.

The Supervisor ScrumMaster, DevOps plays a crucial role in formulating strategies for the optimal utilization of DevOps practices, utilizing the right set of technologies to support the strategic intent of JDS/Hollister.

Responsibilities

  • Scrum Master / Project Management Execution
    • Defining Agile / Kanban / Scrum DevOps Requirements and Goals:
      • Work with stakeholders, project management, cybersecurity, enterprise architecture, and infrastructure teams to define DevOps requirements and goals.
    • Facilitating Scrum Events:
      • Conduct daily standups (or daily scrums) to keep the team aligned.
      • Assist with sprint planning meetings, ensuring the team doesn't over-commit and avoids scope creep.
      • Participate in sprint reviews and capture feedback.
      • Note areas for improvement during retrospectives.
    • Board Administration:
      • Administer the Scrum board, ensuring cards are up to date.
      • Monitor tools like Jira to support the team's workflow.
    • Internal Consulting:
      • Consult with team members and stakeholders on effective collaboration with the Scrum team.
    • Blocker Management:
      • Eliminate external blockers and address internal roadblocks through process improvements.
  • Solution Approach input
      • Work with DevOps Lead, Developers, Business Relationship Managers (BRM), Application Owners (AO), Software Engineers, and Business Analysts (BAs) to advance solution approaches.
      • Lead the development of continuous integration and deployment solutions for applications across various sites/software.
      • Conduct training sessions for DevOps engineers and other engineering teams on representing dependencies clearly in code.
  • Overall Methodology and Delivery Strategy
    • Contribute to the development and execution of Agile DevOps strategic roadmap.
    • Implement and maintain a delivery strategy using Agile / Kanban practices that ensure nimbleness and ability to change quickly while releasing prioritized features incrementally.
    • Teaching Scrum Practices:
      • Educate the team on Scrum principles and practices.
    • Business Partnering:
      • Understand the business goals and priorities and advocate for the team's work to align with these objectives.
      • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements.
      • Communicate progress and manage expectations.
      • Ensure the team delivers valuable features that meet business needs.
      • Prioritize backlog items based on business value.
      • Regularly seek feedback from business representatives.
      • Use it to refine the product backlog and improve processes.
    • Problem Diagnosis and Communication:
      • Diagnose and provide solutions for recurring problems requiring special attention.
      • Foster open communication and fast feedback with development teams to improve developer efficiency and workflows.
    • Innovations and Collaboration:
      • Design and implement innovations to improve increment release velocity, DevOps resiliency, automated testing, and security.
    • Emergency Response and Business Understanding:
      • Respond to system issues, including high-priority incident calls and emergency activities outside of standard office hours.
      • Collaborate with internal and external application and business partners to understand their needs and adapt departmental roadmap plans and priorities.
  • Documentation
    • Lead the development and execution of a robust delivery knowledge base.
    • Own the creation and enhancement of wiki-like documentation to help nurture the DevOps environment.
    • Make it easier for junior developers and Associates to get on-board and start coding and delivering apps in increments.


  • Effectively partner with other IT groups to deliver IT services.
    • Collaborate with PMO, Enterprise Architecture, Enterprise Integrations, Automation, Application Development, Systems Engineering, Business Analysts, and Database Architecture functions to meet business needs while ensuring application Global IT standards and procedures are followed.


  • Establish and track appropriate metrics and key performance indicators.
    • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of Agile practices.
    • Communicate effectively with senior management on project status, risks, and mitigation strategies.
    • Provide regular, insightful reports to leadership on team performance and areas for improvement.
    • Implement processes, tools, and supports ongoing service level measurement metrics and reporting.
    • Maintain and support processes and ensures ongoing communication of such processes to internal teams and business customers.


  • Identify avenues for continuous improvement for services within scope of responsibility, including new approaches and processes that would contribute to improvements within department and to business growth/efficiency in the wider organization.
    • Assist with the development of policies, procedures, and technologies.
    • Keep up with industry's best practices and trends on behalf of the DevOps department.
    • Conducts research, tests, and implements new metrics collection systems that can be reused and applied to any site/software development project.
    • Keep abreast of new technologies and advancements in the Agile space.
    • Stay on top of tech trends, experimenting with and learning new technologies, participating in internal and external technology communities as relates to the role.


  • Incident management
    • Assign incidents appropriately and manage the delivery of the DevOps pipeline.
    • Escalate issues; engage vendor support; provide timely response to customer escalations.
    • Participate in data center disaster recovery planning and execution.
    • Perform other duties as assigned related to this function globally.

    Essential Functions of the Role**:

    • Talk on phone with supplies and Hollister Associates.
    • Read technical manuals / trade journals.
    • Use a personal computer with a strong proficiency in PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
    • Travel via airplane or automobile.
    • Respond to system issues, including high priority incident calls and emergency activities outside of standard office hours as needed.
    • Availability to respond to production support alerts outside of business hours.

    Work Experience Requirements

    • 8 + years of experience as a Project Manager / Scrum Master in an Agile/Kanban environment
    • 3 + years of working experience leading and managing a team of Software developers.

    Education Requirements

    • BS/BA - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
    • Scrum or Agile Certification in good standing

    Specialized Skills/Technical Knowledge

    • Hands-on experience managing and leading Agile teams using Agile/Kanban methodology.
    • Knowledge of DevOps tools, such as GIT, Jenkins, JIRA, Azure DevOps
    • Experience working with various types of business partners, customers and IT Associates, Functional leads and managers delivering feature increments maximizing the benefits of Agile.
    • Have experience managing local and remote teams responsible for incremental software delivery in a variety of programming languages and environments.
    • Proven experience with systems planning, security principles, and general software management best practices.
    • Great project management, time management and supervising skills
    • Experience forming, leading, and maturing Agile teams.
    • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Experience coaching and mentoring Associates.
    • Experience facilitating advanced Agile ceremonies for multiple teams, including program-level ceremonies for large teams.
    • Ability to conduct research into systems issues and products as required.
    • Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.
    • Ability to read and interpret complex business and/or technical documents.
    • Ability to work with Leaders and Business partners and communicate ambiguous concepts.
    • Ability to present to groups across the organization.
    • Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
    • Proven analytical and creative problem-solving abilities.
    • Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
    • Strong customer service orientation.
    • Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
