Job Description
The Storage & Backup Engineer will be contributing to the evolution of Open Systems Storage (SAN and NAS), Backup and Disaster recovery infrastructure solutions in accordance with business requirements. This position will be part of a high performing team delivering high quality solutions & infrastructure services as part of our Storage Engineering function.
You will demonstrate an aptitude to learn and develop as an individual and support the Senior Engineering team by maintaining a strong operational service across Storage & backup technologies. It is expected that there will be an equal focus on both service and security and an experience with both is essential. There will be opportunities to support and occasionally lead project initiatives
Qualifications:
- 7+ years experience working in a Senior Hands-on Storage Engineering Role.
Responsibilities:
Relevant Industry recognized qualifications
- Demonstrate domain knowledge in storage, data management and data protection technologies and be able apply the knowledge of these methodologies to the storage, protection, retention, reclamation, and disaster recovery.
- Manage, configure and maintain multi-PB multi-tiered environment.
- Report on performance and capacities and make allocation recommendations based on trending.
- Participate in capacity planning and performance discussions and assist in development and execution of disaster recovery exercises.
- Provide technical services for customers in a highly complex storage and backup environments. Demonstrate ability to assess technical impact to the project/new technology along with technical risks.
- Resolve complex problems with little or no guidance. Independently research and promote specialized technical solutions.
- Creation and maintenance of Knowledge Articles and procedural documentation
- Pursues Automation of credible tasks & supports Automation Framework where necessary.
- Supports the proactive management of Storage Infrastructure collaborating with Operations & Maintain functions.
- Keep up to date with the latest technology updates and assess their relevance to current technology
- Contribute operational detail to roadmap planning

Technical Skills - Core
- Storage Technologies
- Hitachi (HDS) VSP, Gx00, HCP and HDI
- Dell XtremIO, Isilon, ECS and Data Domain
- SAN Switch Technologies Brocade DCX X7 Directors
- Veritas NetBackup V8.x & AWS native
- Replication software HUR, GAD (Hitachi) & Superna (Isilon)
- Networking Principles (LAN & SAN)
Technical Skills Desirable
- VMWare - vSphere / VRealize & SRM.
- HPE Compute (Synergy & OneView).
- Veritas IT Analytics & Cloud Point.
- Working understanding of Encryption & Compression algorithms.
- AWS
- Ansible Tower
Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of Agile
- Knowledge of ITIL processes and experience with ticket tracking software, specifically Service Now
- Advanced troubleshooting skills
- Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with internal/external customers, vendors, management etc. in both formal and informal situations
- Advanced organizational and project management skills
- Ability to identify and implement technology and/or cost/process improvements
