We are seeking a highly motivated, talented and experienced Power System Architect to play a pivotal role in the development of our next-generation power electronics systems, from concept to reference design and physical prototyping.
The ideal candidate has track-record of successfully leading the definition, development, validation and integration for power solutions (1 250 kW) which seamlessly combine several power converters (AC-DC, DC-AC, DC-DC), multiple MCUs/MPUs (ARM Cortex-A/M, Renesas proprietary core), numerous sensors and various connectivity ICs (WiFi, Bluetooth/LE, LTE).
In this exciting role, you will be responsible for the entire proof-of-concept lifecycle, from defining the architecture and selecting suitable parts to supervising the integration of both hardware and software.
Deep knowledge in Power Management, PCB design, and power systems tests and lab validation will make you successful in this role.
Exceptional communication skills will help you working with Hardware & Software Engineers to ensure smooth system integration, in our worldwide, customer-oriented, expanding team.
This position allows for a hybrid work schedule with a mix of work spent between office, test & validation laboratory and working from home.
Role Responsibilities
Define complex power electronics system architectures (1 - 250 kW) which meet electrical performances, reliability, and cost requirements.
Perform trade-off studies and select optimal solution in regards of system size (ie, power density), cost and performances.
Develop detailed system specifications and ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements.
Select the best Renesas Power Products among released and sampled ICs to meet system requirements and resolve customers technical issues.
Break-down large and complex power electronic systems into modular and scalable sub-systems.
Modelling and simulation of complex power electronics systems in MATLAB Simulink (preferred system-simulation tool).
Lead the development of Proof-of-Concept Boards from schematic implementation to system validation stages.
Effectively manage project timelines, engineering resources and budget.
Monitor market trends and contribute to both Solutions and IC design roadmap for Energy & Grid Systems and Power Products (Voltage Regulators, Power Supply Controllers, Gate-Drivers, Discrete Power Switches).
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (eg, Power Product design, both Hardware and Software development team, external vendors) to ensure seamless system integration.
Qualifications
MSEE is required, PhD is a plus, with 12+ years of relevant experience in Power Systems (1 - 250 kW) design and development.
Proven track record of successfully leading the development of complex power electronics system design and physical prototype validation.
Solid knowledge of electrical engineering fundamentals, strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficient with conducting feasibility studies to compare electrical performances, Bill of Materials (BOM), and cost of various power converter designs or system solutions.
In-depth knowledge of power conversion topologies (AC-DC, Inverter, Isolated DC-DC converters, LDO, Switching Mode Power Supply like Buck, Boost and Buck-Boost DC-DC converters), magnetics, control theory, and discrete power devices (MOSFET, IGBT, GaN).
Proficient with power electronics simulation tools (eg MATLAB Simulink, SIMetrix/Simplis, SPICE, etc).
Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with a wide range of worldwide groups including FAEs, Sales, Power ICs design teams, Hardware and Software engineers, Product Marketing Manager, etc
Hands-on experience in schematic design and PCB layout for high power applications (1 - 250 kW), including PCB layout technique to minimize EMC/EMI is a plus.
Experience in Thermal Analysis, eg, thermal performances calculation and simulation and cooling system specification, is a plus.
Experience in designing and developing power electronics systems utilizing Wide-bandgap (WBG) devices (eg, GaN, SiC) is a strong plus.
Experience in Energy & Grid related applications is a strong plus
