JOB DESCRIPTION - Senior Advanced Project Engineer

The Senior Advanced Project Engineer for the Verification & Validation (V&V) team is responsible for leading estimation, dependencies, milestones, and program execution. This role includes defining and deploying strategic initiatives and processes across various sites to achieve key priorities related to cycle time, productivity, and quality. The selected candidate will facilitate the necessary resources to enable superior program execution, exceed Annual Operating Plan (AOP) targets, execute Global Software Framework (GSF) initiatives, and maintain year-over-year (YOY) improvements. Collaboration with upstream teams and adherence to Software Development Process (SDP)/A3, Honeywell Operating System (HOS)/Lean Product Development (LPD), and Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMi) practices are essential. This position reports to the V&V Leader.

Skills and Experience:

  • Exceptional communication skills, capable of engaging multiple stakeholders, including executives. Ability to present ideas succinctly while actively listening to and understanding feedback without necessitating repeated explanations.
  • Green Belt and/or Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) certification is a plus.
  • Experience with aerospace programs following DO-178B/C standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive common test architecture, environments, strategies, tools, and processes.
  • Proficient in C, C++, Python, and Embedded Programming languages.
  • Experience utilizing Gen AI tools-such as ChatGPT, large language models, and natural language processing for developing applications/utilities to automate process steps.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders (Product Centers of Excellence (COE), Program Integration (PI), Tools, Certification teams) to influence decisions and foster upstream connectivity and change.
  • Define and communicate the Burning Platform for the functional team, ensuring it is embraced and understood by team members and the broader organization. Maintain continual communication regarding this platform to motivate the team.
  • Identify, prioritize, and deploy key improvement strategies and initiatives aligned with the Software V&V COE SDP priorities to drive productivity and cycle time improvements.
  • Lead the development of common test environments, tools, processes, and methodologies. Advocate for capital and operational expenditures, alongside infrastructure and oversight reduction strategies.
  • Drive talent management strategies in accordance with the Talent Review and Career Development plans. Cultivate strong technical leadership within the product line.
  • Be adept at influencing software architecture to adopt the most efficient testing approaches.
  • Drive L2 SDP for Platform team.
  • Stay updated on the latest developments in embedded software testing technologies relevant to the aerospace sector and adjacent fields.
  • Review and approve preliminary and critical design reviews, focusing on the most effective testing approaches and solutions.
  • Utilize debugging tools, simulators, Vector Cast/Cover, MATLAB, among others.
  • Evaluate new technologies (multi-core processors, handheld devices, graphics technologies, etc.) and design tools to develop and define processes that help mistake-proof workflows efficiently.
  • Lead technical development activities, mentoring lower-level engineers, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and driving quality, cost, and schedule objectives.
  • Manage stakeholders effectively, demonstrating an ability to identify and propose technical improvements leveraging engineering expertise.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (Electronic and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical and Electronics Engineering).
  • 8 to 10 years of experience in avionics software development, systems/software verification, with a minimum of 3 years as a Technical Lead in software verification or development.
  • Strong technical expertise, particularly in software development and verification processes, certification, and DO-178 design assurance guidelines.
  • Proven experience with Aero products in Software Development and Verification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with platform technologies, particularly with projects like Anthem and Thunderbolt, is considered a significant advantage.
  • Strong understanding of current software verification methods and tools, along with industry standards and direction.
  • Proven experience in the preparation and execution of project plans, schedules, cost estimates, and baseline change management.
  • Proficiency in risk mitigation, conducting technical design reviews, management reviews, and coordinating customer meetings, alongside cost/schedule/status reporting.
  • Highly motivated individual with the ability to influence technical decisions effectively.
