SQL Database Administrator
Your role in our mission
As a DBA at Gainwell, you will be responsible for the performance, integrity, and security of the databases that you support. We are seeking a skilled
SQL Server Database Administrator to manage and maintain some of our non-prod database systems. Your duties will include planning and development of the database, as well as troubleshooting any issues on behalf of the users. Escalate concerns to management, determine best practices and provide suggestions on how to improve current practices.
Essential Job Functions
- Working experience and expertise as a SQL Server DBA
- Install and configure SQL Server databases and software
- Design databases with both front-end users and back-end servers in mind
- Monitor database performance and manage parameters to provide fast query responses
- Expertise in SQL tuning and optimization
- Control access permissions and privileges to the database
- Ensure storage, archiving, backup, and recovery procedures are functioning correctly
- Write database documentation, including data standards, procedures, and definitions for the data dictionary
- Use of SQL Server diagnostic tools for constant monitoring and issue handling
- Test and modify databases to ensure they operate reliably
- Manage database security/integrity and backup procedures
- Implement database encryption and protect sensitive data
- Perform capacity planning and scalability to accommodate traffic growth Specialized in both front-end & back-end
- Research and analyze existing databases and database requirements, under periodic supervision
- Provide on-call support during non-working hours and weekends, as necessary
- Assist in resolving production problems. Develop and suggest alternative approaches to resolving problems
- Conduct quality assurance activities such as reviews of SQLs developed by developers
- Exposure to U.S. Healthcare domain is a plus
- Hands on DBA experience of at least 7+ years for Professional 2
Qualifications & Ability
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field preferred
- Firm grasp on SQL Server database management and deployment
- Good communication skills to effectively communicate with support personnel, and management
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills
- Good organization skills to balance and prioritize work
- Good documentation skills with knowledge of MS Word and Excel to document things
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and switch between tasks quickly
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced environment and learn rapidly
- Candidates with SQL Server Database certifications have an advantage
