Role Summary/Purpose
Responsible for Power Systems Application modelling, software development and successful delivery of assigned functions to meet corporate project/product commitments. The responsibilities include: working with Electric Utilities or ISOs (Independent System Operators) and Transmission and Distribution System Operators on modelling, functional software specifications, designing, coding, testing, integration, application tuning and delivery.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities:
- Acts as a member in Software Center of Excellence, with responsibilities in high-quality design and development practices. Implement new functionalities in power system application software with focus on modelling aspects.
- Understands customer application modelling needs. Knowledge about the CIM format is a plus.
- Work with customers on model migration and conversion of data to format needed for advanced Power Systems Application, SCADA and Power Market.
- Provides maintenance of power systems application functionality, including code fixes, documentation, and user interfaces.
- Collaborates with system/project engineers, frontend developers and EMS, DMS and market application developers to implement solutions that are aligned with product direction.
- Consults with technical leads to ensure that project-related system design guidelines are being followed.
- Interfaces with customers on general and specific issues within area of functional expertise.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with thesis or related work in power systems with 0-1 year of experience in the relevant field
Desired Characteristics
- Work and/or academic experience in the power systems area.
- Programming skills in C++, Java or other related language, as required. Knowledge on Perl, PowerShell and SQL (MSSQL and/or T-SQL) scripting languages. Basic understanding of database structures and management.
- Knowledge of assigned technical area and a good understanding of the EMS software.
- Exposure to CIM and other model exchange formats.
- Good understanding of power systems and/or energy management systems with focus on modelling for Power Applications
- Knowledge and experience with electric utility industry practices
- Software design skills at the application and technical area level.
- Ability to see integration issues and to preclude schedule impacts.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to write professional and technical reports and procedures.
- Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
- Demonstrates a high degree of personal and professional integrity.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Able to rapidly adapt and to find solutions to unexpected problems.
- Capacity to learn on the go and understand the principles presented during trainings (formal or informal), with the ability to autonomously apply them on a specific task.
- Prior exposure to tools like DBB or ETS will be considered a significant advantage
