JOB DESCRIPTION
Controls engineering -Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) is an engineering discipline that combines software and systems engineering to build and run large-scale, massively distributed, fault-tolerant systems. At Goldman Sachs, Controls engineering SRE is responsible for the availability and reliability of our firm's most critical platform services offered , and ensures they meet the requirements of our internal and external users. We look for engineers who are motivated to collaborate with our businesses to build and run sustainable production systems, which can evolve and adapt to changes in our fast-paced, global business environment.
Responsibilities
Adhere to and drive incident management process and support a blameless post-mortems culture.
Develop, support, improve & administer the Firm's primary business-critical control infrastructure
Create and support automation tooling to improve the reliability of the platform and to increase the productivity of the team.
Provide critical day-to-day support for a massive scale, distributed system
Assess monitoring & alert signals to determine impact and risk to the business and contribute to the incident management process
The successful candidate will have outstanding verbal and written communications, a natural ability to learn in a fast-paced environment, and will be a self-starter with plenty of initiative.
Basic Qualifications
BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field involving coding and / or systems engineering
Proficiency in one or more of the following: Go, Python, C, C++, Java, Perl, Ruby or shell scripting
Experience with algorithms, data structures and software design
Experience with UNIX operating systems internals and / or networking
Proven experience in designing, implementing, and managing cloud-based infrastructure (AWS or Azure Cloud
Experience with containerization technologies (Docker) and container orchestration platforms (Kubernetes).
Knowledge of microservices architecture and container networking.
Proficiency in automation and configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform)
Proficient in version control systems like Git, including branching, merging, and pull request workflows. Familiarity with Git-based platforms like GitHub or GitLab.
Strong understanding of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Azure DevOps Engineer Expert) are desirable.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with distributed systems design, maintenance, and troubleshooting
Hands-on experience with debugging and optimizing code, as well as automation
Strong interpersonal skills, drive, and ownership
Coding beyond simple scripts
Solving novel problems from first principle
Experience with Kafka or similar messaging technologies
Experience with microservice architectures
Experience with the Spring framework family
Strong proficiency in: Distributed systems, Low-latency services, NoSQL and relational databases
Solid understanding of networking concepts, security principles, and best practices.
Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders
Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative, and dynamic team environment
