Job Description

Position Summary:

Marriott has an exciting opportunity for a Production Support Software Engineer on the Data Privacy engineering team. Our goal is to ensure that Marriott's customer data is used properly across the company so that customers can trust Marriott with their personal data. This role is part of the team focused on building out enterprise solutions to support adherence to global privacy regulations and data governance best practices, using Marriott's Modern Data Platform cloud-based technologies. Appropriate candidates have a passion for data and a strong drive for success.

In this role, you will function as an expert Production Support Software Engineer. This role is critical in ensuring the customer data is being processed accurately, completely, and in a timely manner. You will focus on data privacy and governance processes that are deployed in production. The most common activities are, but not limited to, the following use cases:

  • Onboard new client systems onto existing processes using pre-defined instructions and templates. When necessary, perform minor enhancements to the instructions and templates.
  • Monitor health of processes and act when deviation occurs.
  • Troubleshoot production issues that are not obvious and/or cannot be handled by first-line production support responders.
  • Define and perform steps to recover from production issues, which may include small code enhancements.
  • Initiate, and subsequently track and follow-through, pre-defined activities across one or more application teams.
  • Support ad-hoc privacy and data governance requests

Job Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership:

  • Trains and/or mentors other team members, and peers as appropriate
  • Ability to work liaising with multiple teams to steer tasks from inception to successful delivery
  • Identifies opportunities to enhance the service delivery processes.

Delivering Technology:

  • Performs complex quantitative and qualitative analyses for service delivery processes
  • Facilitates achievement of expected deliverables
  • Ensures proper coordination with appropriate application teams
  • Provides consultation for routine and complex systems development
  • Ensures early warning to stakeholders regarding degraded or missed service levels
  • Coordinates with Application Delivery and Infrastructure teams for deployment and production support activities

IT Governance:

  • Follows all defined IT standards and processes (i.e. IT Governance, SM&G, Architecture, etc.), and provides input for improvements to the appropriate process owners as needed
  • Maintains a proper balance between business and operational risk
  • Ability to assess when risks need to be escalated to right channels.
  • Follows the defined project management standards and processes

Service Provider Management:

  • Validates that Service Providers develop and manage respective aspects of a project plan, including schedules, deliverables, and appropriate metrics.
  • Makes short term plans for the team to effectively utilize resources
  • Monitors Service Provider outcomes
  • Reviews estimates of work effort for client project provided by Service Providers for accuracy
  • Facilitates timely resolution of service delivery problems and minimizes the impact to clients

Skill and Experience:

Must Have:

  • 2 + years of experience in minor code enhancement projects, with standard SDLC experience, in an enterprise environment.
  • 2-4 years hands on experience with querying databases using SQL.
  • 2-4 years experience developing data applications using the following technologies: AWS, Lambda, Apache Spark, Python, Airflow, Any RDBMS (Preferred SQL)

Important attributes:

  • Demonstrated a sense of urgency in resolving and tracking issues to resolution.
  • Strong ability to grasp and understand end-to-end business processes with underlying technical solution spanning multiple applications.
  • Strong communication skills, including experience describing and documenting issues clearly and facilitating troubleshooting discussions.
  • Strong analytical skills, superb attention to details, and keen ability to connect the dots.
  • Adept at asking relevant questions, analyzing metrics, and perform root-cause analysis.
  • Proven ability to work independently with a go-getter attitude.

Nice to have:

  • Experience using Snowflake or having Snowflake certification.
  • Experience working in Agile methodology.
  • AWS Solutions Architect or Developer certification.

Education and Certifications: Technical degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or related engineering domains.
