Title: Software Engineer - Data Services
The Group: The Financial Planning group builds solutions and capabilities that enable financial advisors to deliver compliant and comprehensive financial advice so that their retail clients and investors meet their goals. The solutions leverage Morningstar's extensive data and research capabilities across all stages of financial advice making the advice process compliant, efficient and effective.
The Role: The Morningstar AdviserLogic - are consolidating our technical solutions for different customer groups and bringing all components to the cutting edge of technology. Adviser Solutions form the backbone of our offerings as financial advisers. Our data engineering products and components are being consolidated under one Data Services team which has the following responsibilities:
Optimal extraction from third party systems, relevant transformation, and loading into our system. Creating and maintaining tools and systems for analyzing and visualizing raw data extracts and feeding processed data to other teams. This includes product usage data analytics. Aggregate data from multiple sources and third parties into a common platform and provide it as a research tool to internal and external consumers.
Responsibilities
- Experience of defining engineering best practices and providing technical mentorship to other members of the engineering team.
- The ability to build good working relationships within the team by communicating clearly both verbally and in writing
- Experience and understanding of Agile Development methodologies especially Scrum.
- You should be a fast learner, open to learning new technologies when needed.
- Good communication skills - Written and verbal to understand the current application and working with the Product Manager and Software Development Manager to understand the future functional and scalability needs.
- Expertise in web apps are architectured with Javascript driving the application flow and APIs as the backend
- Sound knowledge and experience of working on both front-end and back-end technologies.
- Good to have - C# on .NET Core in addition to NodeJS.
- Highly Desired: Previous experience of developing ETL tools
- Expertise in working with relational and non-relational databases.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- Minimum 2 years of professional experience in software development.
- Computer Science fundamentals in object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, problem-solving, and complexity analysis.
- Proficiency in, at least one modern programming language such as Java, C#, JavaScript, Python
- Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers.
- Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
- Ability to take ownership of a module in a project and take it from scoping requirements through actual launch of the project.
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, describe software product features, and technical designs.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and planning skills, and the ability to excel in a fast-paced environment while delivering high-quality work.
- Ability to lead team decision-making processes and foster an environment of teamwork.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Self-directed and detail oriented.
