Edge Technology Engineering is responsible for software that runs our CDN, one of world's largest distributed platforms. We are looking for an experienced, self-motivated, highly productive Software Engineer. The one who will design and develop software tools and frameworks. Also, benchmark the core features/functionalities of the web/caching/streaming distributed servers that form the Akamai Cloud.
Make a difference in a critical area of our business
You will be a part of the team responsible for troubleshooting production issues on the network. Also, you'll provide design, development and optimization of existing features/functionalities in the software. Our software is a combination of many different technologies. It provides a scalable, fault tolerant solution to web sites for handling their traffic
As a Software Engineer II, you will be responsible for-
- Designing and developing software that powers some of the biggest online events at scale
- Improving the efficiency of our products by coming up with creative solutions; this directly impacts Akamai's bottom-line.
- Adopting latest technology standards to keep our software up to date, keeping us ahead of the curve.
- Taking ownership of assigned modules by becoming the Subject Matter Expert. Akamai favors quality over quantity
- Helping your colleagues to solve their problems; we foster a collaborative work culture
- Troubleshooting and debugging problems on the Akamai platform whenever needed
Do What You Love
To be successful in this role you will-
- Have a bachelors degree and 2+ years of relevant industry experience
- Have good Programming skills in C and/or C++ or Java
- Have understanding of Systems Programming (GNU/Linux) including multi-threading, memory management, I/O and other interactions with the kernel
- Have experience with databases and SQL and hands on scripting (Python/Perl/Javascript/Ruby/Shell)
- Able to communicate effectively, both in written and verbal form
- Have an understanding of compiler concepts along with compilation techniques and optimization
