Sr. Admins must also be able to understand existing tools and be able to create new tools for the labs. A strong knowledge of the most of following is required:
- UNIX (FreeBSD)
- Linux (RHEL/CentOS)
- PERL/Python/Shell
- TCP/IP
A Sr. Admin performs much or the same tasks as a Lab Admin, however they have a deeper understanding of why such a thing is done, as opposed to just what must be done.
Tasks for a Sr. Admin include but are not limited to:
- Installation of network and/or computer equipment
- Software re-installation of lab devices
- Adding new devices to our database system
- Troubleshooting and replacing of broken hardware
- Building or changing topologies between devices, and documenting the changes
- Building and deploying Virtual Machines (using ESX vCenter), Proxmox
