About The Role
The Social Media Advisor contributes to the success of the City of Melbourne's communications strategy by delivering a best practice approach to the day-to-day management of social media channels, content development and implementation.
This role forms part of a multi-skilled and creative team who develop, manage and innovate channel specific material across the major corporate social media channels including LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube and Threads. This role will support and advise on the delivery of timely content and engagement opportunities in line with CoM's strategic objectives. It involves navigating diverse opinions and objectives and providing the organisation with best-practice recommendations.
The team is part of the External Communications function and works collaboratively across Strategic Communications (and with selected stakeholders) to ensure a proactive, planned and compelling content calendar is delivered. This includes the development of multimedia content that can be amplified across social channels in line with agreed priorities.

What you will bring to City of Melbourne
- A tertiary qualification in media, film production, journalism or communications or equivalent relevant experience.
- Experience with social media platforms and knowledge of best practices for publishing and promoting content to maximise reach and engagement.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven track record of creating innovative video content that stands out in the digital landscape, with specialised knowledge in producing and optimising upright (vertical or portrait-oriented) video content.
- Capacity to creatively translate complex strategic concepts into compelling and digestible content for a variety of audiences.
- A willingness to stay updated with the latest trends in video production, social media platforms, new formats and content types, editing software, and digital marketing strategies.
