- Directs, plans, and schedules the shop workload as controlled by customer contract requirements.
- Assures that work is performed in accordance with the specifications and procedures defined in Elliotts Quality Manual.
- Advises Repair Engineers of any customer product non- conformances detected in the repair process.
- Assigns the scheduled work and activity on a daily basis to qualified and capable personnel.
- Assures, provided work instructions are complete and understood.
- Assures materials, tooling and supplies for the job are available to the assigned personnel.
- Provides consultation and assists in resolving unforeseen problems during manufacturing
- Reviews work assignments for completion and approve completed assignments.
- Orders tools and supplies required for specific jobs.
- Assists with production scheduling, participates in weekly production meetings when required and recommends strategies to correct deviations from schedule.
- Implements, supervise and hold responsibility for good housekeeping activities, safe work practices, effective and efficient operation using established policies and procedures.
- Participates in both formal and informal audits of work practices, Quality, Statutory , HSE, Expenses and Operating efficiencies. Takes corrective actions as required.
- Administers personnel functions in the department including hiring, training, discipline and discharge.
- Actively participates and takes a leadership role in health, safety, environment and quality initiatives.
- Establishes and maintains discipline, effective and productive work habits in the department.
- Communicates effectively to schedule work, shipping and material handling with other departments and shifts.
- Assists with safety and environment audits, customer inspection visits and training activities.
- Maintains a high standard of personal conduct and morale in the department.
- Supports satisfactory work progress by addressing employee technical issues and information requests promptly as well as monitoring all activity throughout the department.
- Maintains a high degree of visibility throughout the day.
- Promotes and adheres to company policies.
- Performs additional activities as assigned by supervision.
- Overall administration of the shop floor for day-to-day function.
- Ensure Statutory compliance of HSE, Labor law, Electricity board & PC board of local & central government.
- Implement TPM across the Shop floor to manage the targeted up-time of machines.
1)QUALITY
- Create monitoring procedures to control scrap & rework costs. Manage coordinated efforts to eliminate the root cause of the quality problem and employee recommendations.
- Assists Shop Engineering in solving quality/manufacturing/design problems.
- Monitors and controls ISO 9000 requirements in all areas of responsibility.
- Ensure machine tools are properly maintained, by adhering to TPM schedule;
- Ensure instruments available in Sop floor and Inspection areas are calibrated and controlled;
- Ensure certified slings , Cranes , Forklift etc are in use in the shop floor.
- Ensure personnel are correctly trained and qualified for work activities;
- Ensure quality documentation is kept up to date;
- 2) PRODUCTION & FINANCE
- Initiate methods to control efficiency levels of machining operations. Take necessary action to insure that products are produced at the lowest possible cost and in the shortest lead-time with the highest quality.
- Initiate methods to monitor and control product costs of critical path component parts.
- Participates in development of plant layout changes for area of responsibility.
- Participate & Encourage KAIZEN implementations in the shop floor to eliminate/ reduce wastes;
- Achieve targets for utilization and absorption by managing Technicians.
- Ensure financial sign off limits are adhered to for purchases.
- Management of supply chain (vendors, subcontractors, inspectors) to achieve delivery requirements and
- Support shop production needs.
- 3) SAFETY
- Administers a program of good housekeeping in all areas of responsibility, Resolve Safety issues and fosters a work safe environment.
- Ensure all the work areas Have Job Hazard analysis and Risk assessment done and appropriate actions are implemented;
- Ensure shop floor personnel operate within the Health & Safety procedures as set out in the Health and Safety Manual, including but not limited to using appropriate PPE s , Lock out Tag out procedures , Fire extinguishers and Fire evacuation systems.
- Ensure that all accidents/incidents are reported and investigated as required;
- Facilitate and support H & S audits.
- Ensure Statutory compliance of HSE of local & central government.
- 4) RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
- Identify shop training needs and establish the annual training & development programme.
- Implement the training & development programme with the support of HR.
- Maintain staffing levels, overtime and shift patterns in line with forecasts. Report on this on the monthly reports
- Conduct hiring, training & development, discipline, discharge and performance appraisal of personnel.
- Participates in disciplinary procedures with personnel.
- 5) TEAM WORK/MOTIVATION
- Devise motivational and developmental procedures for all subordinates to perform their assigned duties to the best of their abilities in a manner consistent with company goals.
- Attend and contribute in the production meetings;
- Support other Elliott groups where possible;
- Support Technicians in developing high quality repairs;
- Support Shop Manager and Repair Engineers in meeting customer deliveries
