Senior Technical Engineer

Overview

Reporting to the Director of Technical Services, you will be responsible for configuring, deploying, and supporting Commonwealth's CVW pharmacovigilance products for our customer base. In general, you will perform or lead and direct others to perform a wide variety of complicated tasks that require data management and programming skills, pragmatism, deep knowledge of our products, and knowledge of the pharmacovigilance domain.

Responsibilities

• Support Commonwealth Informatics clients through the selection, configuration, deployment, validation, and ongoing operational use of CVW software solutions:
• Work with clients to determine system requirements, consulting with business analysts, IT professionals, and medical professionals.
• Collaborate with Commonwealth IT and Service teams to support the specification, configuration, deployment and management of scalable, highly available, compliant applications and services on the AWS platform.
• Design, develop, and maintain robust and performant data migrations and Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes to support the integration of customer data into their deployments.
• Guide the design, integration, and implementation of interfaces to optimize performance and capacity.
• Mitigate and manage risks.
• Work in compliance with company and client SOPs, emphasis on HIPAA rules and regulations.
• Stay up to date with recent technology trends and tools.

Required Qualifications and Skills

Experience in design, development, and operation of ETL applications

Experience in design and implementation of data warehouses.

Expertise in data modelling and tuning SQL query performance

Clinical data management

Drug safety applications

Resourcefulness to analyze unexpected problems and identify practical solutions. A wide degree of creativity and judgement is expected

Software Development Lifecycle

Familiarity with regulatory requirements

Strong attention to detail

Ability to work independently and multi-task effectively

Excellent written and oral communications skills

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

Life Sciences and / or Pharmacovigilance related data sets and standards, e.g., E2B R2 / R3, MedDRA, WhoDrug, GMDN

AWS, and associated proprietary AWS services, e.g., S3, RDS, DMS

Development using Eclipse, Git and Jira in a hybrid Agile methodology

Signal detection and Signal management as practiced in the pharmacovigilance industry

Reporting and BI tools such as Tableau

• Linux system basic administration
• PostgreSQL basic database administration
• Software development experience
• Database optimization
• Experience with JSON data structures

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in computer science, informatics, or a related field

Minimum of 7 years of full-time experience utilizing several of the required and preferred skills.
