Role Profile

The Electrification Core engineering team requires an experienced senior structural engineer to apply world-class design and analysis skills to improve Jaguar Land Rover's capability to deliver the next-generation electric power train systems. The objective is to deliver levels of reliability and robustness into the Electric Drive Units (EDU), exceeding anything that we have seen before by using the latest tools and best practice Engineering Techniques.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and perform virtual analysis of electric power train components and systems from high-level prototype to mass production for e-mobility platforms.

Perform structural, vibrational, durability, and design optimization.

Support the virtual test validation of the electric drive unit and other electric powertrain systems.

Support proto development including material sourcing, supplier engagement, and assembly process development.

Support design for manufacturing (DFM) of Electric Machine rotor/stator assemblies and associated components within the EDU and ensuring that the manufacturing processes of all eMachine components and assemblies align to the Bill of Process and standards set down by Manufacturing and Company Quality

Validates the design of new products or product enhancements by completing various analyses such as DFMEA, and Design for Assembly/ Manufacturing studies.

Develop the key design documents for the structural and vibrational aspects of design and testing procedure to validate/correlate the virtual testing procedure.

Evaluate design trade-offs of design choices (alternate material, tolerance specification, cooling method, etc.)

Role Description

Skills, experience, and qualifications

Essential:

Master's in mechanical engineering (specialization in structural or solid mechanics preferred).

Minimum 8 years of industrial experience in structural and durability analysis on electric powertrain components and sub-assemblies.

Expert knowledge of structural/vibrational simulation tools ABAQUS, HyperWorks, or ANSYS.

Expert knowledge of durability simulation tools Ncode, Fe-safe, or FEMFAT.

Demonstrated knowledge of internal working of various aspects of simulation software.

Proficient with scripting using Python, and C for generating automation workflow process.

Experience in correlation between physical tests and virtual models is a strong asset.

Experience in the field of electric machine component design or manufacturing or testing.

Proven technical knowledge of Electric Machine component delivery or design.

Knowledge of Electric Machine and electric powertrain systems.

Experience of typical manufacturing solutions such as extrusions, stamping, mouldings, pressings and implications of manufacturing process on mechanical design.

Strong people skills and the ability to work individually and in a cross-functional team.

Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Good knowledge of the main electric powertrain failure modes.

Must have a working knowledge of the electric powertrain unit including electric machines, inverters, converters, and charging systems.

Desired:

Familiarity with the product development process.

Knowledge of key processes in the automotive including requirements capture process and documentation, FMEAs, Functional validation, and durability analysis.

Knowledge of challenges associated with integrating component designs into mass production.

Previous experience in the electric drive unit/ other electric powertrain systems, component and assembly testing: test standards and specification, rig setup, execution and correlation.

Working knowledge of E-drive system modeling.
