Job summary:
At South Pole, we are on a mission to drive sustainability through data-driven insights. As a rapidly expanding global company, we are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Data Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in developing and maintaining scalable data pipelines, enabling us to extract valuable insights across the business.
Main tasks & responsibilities:
- As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be a key player in our Data team within Technology, reporting directly to the Head of Data. Your responsibilities include:
- Developing Scalable Data Pipelines: Design, build, and continuously improve data pipelines and structured datasets to support analysis by data analysts and BI developers.
- Organizational Data Infrastructure: Design, document and build the organizational data infrastructure and architecture, contributing to the overall data governance and management policies.
- Stakeholder management: Managing data definitions and master data will be key. This will be essential for finance and carbon credit data.
- Data Analysis and Organization: Analyze and organize raw data from all core enterprise systems (Salesforce, ERP, HR etc.), meta data from unstructured data sources (Google Drive, PowerBI etc.) and external data sources (carbon registries, emission factors, external carbon credit data etc.).
- Enhancing Data Quality: Explore and implement strategies to enhance data quality and reliability. Including ongoing monitoring and maintenance, ensuring that as a business we are adopting best practices.
- Collaboration: Work closely with BI developers, information security analysts, and the existing infrastructure team to support the generation of scalable and repeatable insights from data.
Requirements:
Essential -
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- Proven experience working with cloud infrastructure
- Proven experience in data engineering with a focus on developing and maintaining scalable data pipelines
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Proficiency in working with structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data
- Experience in coding languages such as SQL, Python
- Demonstrated experience with SQL databases, both relational and non-relational in a cloud environment and data warehouses and dbt
- Experience transforms raw data into a usable format by applying data cleansing, aggregation, filtering, and enrichment techniques
- Experience monitoring and tuning data systems, identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks, and implementing caching and indexing strategies to enhance query performance
- Familiarity with data governance and management policies
- Experience with business requirements gathering for data sourcing
- Expert problem-solving skills, including debugging skills, allowing the determination of sources of issues in unfamiliar code or systems, and the ability to recognize and solve repetitive problems
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
Desirable -
- Experience working with Google Cloud infrastructure and Salesforce
- Experience with enterprise software ecosystem (Salesforce Sales Cloud, Dynamics Finance & Operations and Project Operations)
- Experience with Microsoft Data Stack (Azure, Synapse, Blob storage, PowerBI etc.)
- Experience in version control and CI/CD (for example, Github, GitHub Actions)
- Experience working with APIs
- Experience working with infrastructure as a code (for example, Terraform)
- Enthusiasm for working in a rapidly expanding global company in the sustainability sector
