- Clinical Care: You evaluate and manage patients with a wide range of neurological conditions, including stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, neuromuscular disorders, headache disorders, and neurodegenerative diseases
- This involves conducting thorough neurological examinations, interpreting diagnostic tests (such as MRI, CT scans, EEG), and formulating treatment plans tailored to each patient's needs
- Inpatient and Outpatient Care: You provide care to patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings
- In the hospital, you manage acute neurological emergencies, conduct consultations, and follow up on patients admitted under neurology services
- In the outpatient clinic, you perform initial assessments, provide ongoing care, and monitor disease progression in patients with chronic neurological conditions
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Neurology often requires collaboration with other medical specialties, including neurosurgery, neuroradiology, psychiatry, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy
- You work closely with these specialists to provide comprehensive care and address the complex needs of patients with neurological disorders
- Diagnostic and Therapeutic Procedures: As a Senior Resident, you may perform or assist with various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in neurology
- These may include lumbar punctures, electromyography (EMG), nerve conduction studies (NCS), botulinum toxin injections, deep brain stimulation programming, and other specialized interventions
- Seizure Management: You are trained in the diagnosis and management of seizures and epilepsy
- This includes prescribing antiepileptic medications, evaluating patients for surgical intervention when appropriate, and counseling patients and their families on seizure management and safety precautions
- Stroke Care: Stroke is a common neurological emergency requiring prompt evaluation and treatment
- As a Senior Resident in Neurology, you participate in the acute management of stroke patients, including the administration of thrombolytic therapy (if eligible), stroke prevention strategies, and rehabilitation planning
