Description
We are looking for an senior researcher to lead the advanced analysis of survey and family planning healthcare data in low and middle income countries as part of a large project funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. This is the right role for you if you are passionate about using advanced analytics and healthcare-related data to deliver impactful insights into women's and children's health. In this role, you will lead the analysis of a multi-country research project around women's family planning intent, preferences, and contraceptive needs across Nigeria, Senegal, Cote d'Ivoire, and Pakistan. You will join a dynamic team, grow your ability to deploy innovative data science and AI techniques, and work in a fast-paced environment to generate actionable intelligence and support our clients on effective programs to promote women's reproductive health.
What you'll achieve:
- Lead data analytics strategies with LMIC family planning domain expertise and oversee their execution
- Deliver data processing and analytical pipelines that transform raw data (e.g. fit-for-purpose survey data and Demographic and Health Surveys) into high-quality internal data assets and client deliverables
- Engage funders and with high-quality statistical analysis, valuable insights, and strong data visualizations, with strong family planning domain expertise
- Innovate with new methodologies, analytical technologies, and data sources
- Lead design of new instruments and oversee a team to operationalize research
- Foster organizational growth with mentoring and support your colleagues professional development
About you:
A well-qualified candidate would have:
- 5+ years of experience with hands-on, end-to-end coding and analytical work with survey or health behavior data, ideally in the context of Lower- and Middle-Income Countries. PhD in a related field is a plus.
- Experience in women's sexual reproductive health behavior in LMIC settings is highly desired.
- Strong ability to communicate analytics insights to senior stakeholders
- NGO- or private-sector experience in health behavior or health-related fields.
- Strong command of statistical concepts and skills (e.g. confounding, linear/logistic regression, uncertainty, survey statistics)
- Fluency in R and version control (Git) is required. Basic cloud computing knowledge (AWS) is a plus
- A passion for improving healthcare, health behaviors and patient outcomes through data science and behavior science
- Excellent ability to digest and evaluate evidence from interdisciplinary literature
- Enthusiasm for working in a fast-paced startup environment where you can make a significant impact
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal with ability to translate technical insights to actionable interpretations. Basic fluency in French is a plus.
Location: The role is remote. The candidate will be expected to work flexible hours to partially overlap with the US (East Coast) and India teams. Surgo is based out of Washington, DC.
Travel: Some travel (up to 10%) possible
