Designation:Research Engineer, Coated Abrasives
We seek to hire a Research Engineer / Senior Research Engineer with a background in Textile/ Polymer/ Material science to be part of Coated Abrasives Research and Development team located at Saint-Gobain Research India (SGRI), Chennai, with a mission to develop new products/ solutions and technology to enable business growth and innovation.
The candidate will work closely with the business and the R&D competency teams, both regional and global, develop a fundamental understanding of existing knowhow of process/products and develop solutions using different tools and techniques available. They will also be expected to leverage internal and external resources and suggest solutions backed by sound analytical and logical reasoning.
Job Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will:
- Possess a strong fundamental understanding of engineering and scientific principles.
- Lead ongoing projects by bringing in technical expertise and a curious mindset. Design and plan experiments to address specific research and development objectives as part of specific R&D projects. Work collaboratively with senior scientists and engineers and mentor junior colleagues to carry out experiments as advised.
- Maintain thorough documentation of experimental procedures, results, and conclusions. Be able to articulate findings effectively to different stakeholders. Collaborate with business teams to understand and identify customer/product needs and requirements.
- Work collaboratively with stakeholders across business to help define and deliver R&D projects, support manufacturing teams for process improvements, develop quality control protocols for new products and projects, application engineering and field sales team to identify solutions, scale up pilot and lab scale designs to industrial lines, test products at customer.
- Willingness to travel as required for project-related activities, such as field tests, customer visits, process trials.
Educational Background:
- Ph.D in Textile/ Polymer/ Material Science & Engineering with thesis work or hands on experience with understanding of materials, structural properties, and process.
Desired skills & Experience:
- Desired: Academic or working experience in Textile/ Polymer/ Material Sci (or) Engg.
- Ph.D (Fresher or relevant work experience 2-3 years)
- Candidate must be highly energetic, result-driven and demonstrate passion for research. Excellent oral and written communication and influencing skills are a must. Proven two-way communication skills to deliver the right messages convincingly with right structuring adapted to the target audience.
- Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with people from different functions across company and globally preferred.
- Good to have: Previous experience of working with manufacturing and process lines (or) pilot scale lines will be an added bonus. Experience with cloth/fabric processing would be highly desirable.
