We are looking for a Senior Analyst to join our Oils & Chemicals Assets research team. Wood Mackenzie provides integrated commercial and strategic subscription research and consultancy services for the chemicals, fibres, plastics and sustainability sectors. We provide insight combined with proprietary data, helping companies identify trends and take advantage of opportunities. Together, we inspire and innovate the markets we serve. The Oils & Chemicals Research team is expanding rapidly and is a key vector of growth for Wood Mackenzie.

About The Role

  • You will be a key member of the Assets research team, supporting our Asian coverage of the aromatics group of chemicals with a particular focus on Paraxylene, PTA and related markets.
  • You will lead, develop and execute the commercial strategies set with the team for the Paraxylene and PTA Asset Benchmarking Tools. There could also be opportunities to drive growth in new product areas such as asset monitoring and GHG emissions benchmarking.
  • You will produce high-quality research in the form of thought-provoking reports, presentations and articles and will contribute to bespoke consulting projects. You will research and validate markets, assets, ownerships and strategies and will assist in producing cost, price and margin forecasts at the regional and global levels.
  • Through your research and responding to client queries, you will strengthen your network of contacts at key companies and industry associations. Your contribution to our industry-leading written reports, supply-demand models and presentations will be valued.

About You and How You Can Excel in This Role

  • The successful candidate will have substantive experience in an analytical role.
  • Relevant industry knowledge of the petrochemical and refining sectors as well as in-depth understanding of base chemical markets would be advantageous. Technical experience in a refinery or petrochemicals plant would be considered a plus.
  • We are happy to consider candidates with extensive expertise in any one aspect of petrochemical industry refinery/chemical integration, benzene/styrene, paraxylene, PTA or other related derivatives.
  • You will have good knowledge of commodity product behaviors, and capability to identify key drivers (such as macroeconomic indicators, industrial/consumer activities, domestic prices, etc.) so that their effects on production, demand, price and trade are quantified in models by product and sector.
  • You are comfortable collecting and interpreting data, articulating your findings in a clear and insightful manner.
  • You have a flair for written communications and confidence when presenting your insights to small and large groups.
