The Senior Piping Designer completes a variety of Piping Design assignments as needed and can complete work with a limited degree of supervision. They are an informal resource for colleagues with less Piping Design experience. They developed proficiency in a range of analytical processes or procedures to carry out assigned tasks. They provide solutions to problems in situations that are atypical or infrequently occurring based on existing precedents or procedures. They directly impact the quality of the work of the team.
Essential Qualifications and Education:
- High School graduate with a diploma in Mechanical Design, or Drafting in a related discipline or equivalent experience
- 10 years min with major contractor or consultant of which 4+ years of experience in oil and gas performing Pre-FEED, FEED and Detailed Design
- Detailed knowledge of 3D CAD system including E3D or SP3D
- Minimum 1 or 2 projects working experience in E3D and/or S3D
- Detailed knowledge of AutoCAD
- Familiar with associated local regulatory environment and international and national industry standards and specifications
- A general understanding of how process equipment is maintained and operated
- Auto lisp Programming, 3D Model creation, Menu and/or Macro compilation skills would be an advantage
- Flexible for business travel
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Develop 3D Models and ensure clash free model in coordination with all other disciplines requirements
- Perform Design and engineering process facilities within a specified time while adhering to maintenance, safety and quality standards; consider constructability, economics and operation into account during Pre-FEED, FEED or Detailed Design phases
- Work within defined processes and procedures or methodologies and may help determine the appropriate approach for new assignments
- Complete a variety of typical assignments as needed efficiently and with limited degree of supervision and facilitates the work activities of others
- Set priorities, organize own work and time to meet objectives, and (as Lead Designer or Area Lead) forecast and plan resource requirements
When acting as Lead Designer or Area Lead designer, in addition:
- Lead the design team to complete the tasks within the planned schedule and budget, in accordance with standards, McDermott and project-specific procedures
- Act as project-based discipline point of contact in communications and meetings with Project Team, Client, vendor/supplier and/or subcontractor counterparts
- Ensure that the inter-discipline aspects of the design and deliverables are addressed
- Support Lead Piping Engineer in measuring the progress and productivity
- Coordinate all activities within own discipline and discipline interfaces with other disciplines
- Ensure effective communications among other disciplines and effective management of change
- Coordinate 3D Model Reviews and ensure Review comments are closed
- Become fully familiar with Project Scope of Work, specifications, schedule and inter-discipline requirements, including identifying concerns as early as practicable and taking appropriate initiatives to address them
- Develop Plant Design and 3D Modelling, Drawings and input into Plant Layout Narrative in accordance with the agreed Scope of Work, man-hours, and schedule
- Assist Lead Piping Engineer/ Designer in raising technical queries, preparing the piping estimate and job scope changes,
- Attend (As lead Piping Designer) project Kickoff and Review meetings, Vendor meetings
- Monitor and coordinate the design team remotely if required and Lead a project in a Multi Office Project Execution Environment (MOPEX)
- Identify changes to scope and promptly raise change notification in the Change Management System
- Able to identify issue as soon as they arise and follow up with any required corrective action
- Provides solutions to problems in situations that are atypical or infrequently occurring based on existing precedents or procedures
- Act as an informal resource for colleagues with less experience
- Ensure that the work is carried out in accordance with McDermott requirements, Client and Statutory Design Codes, Standards or Procedures with particular focus on Health and Safety Policies
