Role Summary

WSP is seeking a Senior Hydrogeologist to join our large and growing technical support team in Bengaluru. The role involves working closely with our global Mining Team. The successful applicant will undertake specialized analyses and studies related to Hydrogeology for mining water projects. This work will be carried out under the direction of a global team of mining, and civil engineering professionals.

The applicant will report to the Mining Team Leader as part of WSP's iCRC Global Mining Team. The goal is to deliver the highest standards of technical work, contributing to the ongoing success of the mining projects by supporting the client-focused delivery of projects. Close collaboration with WSP's mining leaders will be a key aspect of the role. Technical responsibilities will include conducting Hydrogeological studies, reviewing data, and preparing inputs for reports related to mine water projects.

Responsibilities

The successful applicant would be responsible for the following.

  • Provide expert guidance and leadership in hydrogeological assessments and mine water management projects, ensuring high-quality technical deliverables and adherence to project objectives.
  • Manage complex groundwater projects from initiation to completion, including scoping, budgeting, scheduling, resource coordination, and ensuring timely delivery within set deadlines.
  • Act as a primary point of contact with lead country, offering hydrogeological technical advice and fostering strong client relationships through effective communication and project delivery.
  • Lead, mentor, and coach junior hydrogeologists and groundwater modellers, facilitating their career growth and technical development while actively transferring knowledge and best practices.
  • Drive innovation in groundwater modelling practices by introducing new techniques, workflows, and ideas to enhance project efficiency and accuracy. Conduct reviews of models and provide support to groundwater modellers across the team and broader mining business.
  • Develop and manage best practice approaches and technologies for hydrogeological assessment and decision-making, staying abreast of advancements in technology, methods, and research to ensure the application of cutting-edge solutions.

Key Competencies

Mandatory Skills

  • Extensive professional experience in hydrogeology, preferably within a consultancy setting, with a track record of delivering successful hydrogeological assessments and water management projects.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in technical report writing, data interpretation, and groundwater modelling. Experience with a diverse range of groundwater modelling software and calibration utilities, with expertise in MODFLOW, Feflow preferred.

  • Experience in conducting uncertainty analysis to assess the reliability of groundwater models and make informed decisions in complex hydrogeological settings.
  • Total Experience 5 08 Years.
  • Proficiency in using GIS and other software to visualize complex model outputs and geospatial data, enhancing the understanding and communication of hydrogeological findings.
  • Experience in coding (e.g., Python, Matlab) to support pre-processing and post-processing tasks in groundwater modelling and analysis, facilitating automation and efficiency in workflow processes.
  • Demonstrated passion for hydrogeology and a strong commitment to advancing knowledge and practices in the field.
  • Strong commitment to HSSE principles, mental health awareness, and fostering a safe workspace for all team members.

Desired Skills

  • Track record of successfully delivering water related projects.
  • Meeting Clients needs, as well as programme and budgetary constraints.
  • Proven technical expertise in the hydrogeology field with an established reputation in the local market.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to junior engineers, fostering their professional growth and contributing to the overall knowledge sharing within the firm.
  • Experienced with managing a water resource engineers and supporting mining business based outside of India.
  • Ability to challenge the status quo and apply innovation in day-to-day work.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary-qualified with a Master's degree in Geology, Engineering or related discipline; a Post-graduate degree in Hydrogeology will be highly regarded.
  • Excellent data interpretation and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of technical report writing, other written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and verbal communications abilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in the consulting industry with business acumen.
  • Demonstrated experience in the delivery of hydrogeological assessments to characterise and address complex groundwater problems.
  • Machine learning and coding background (e.g., Python, Matlab etc.) will be highly regarded.
  • Passionate about hydrogeology.
