Role Summary
The Senior Engineer - Geotechnical role is to conduct and support the assessment and reporting of all aspects of Ground Engineering consultancy work. The role will be predominantly to support the Middle East Ground Engineering team. On occasion the consultant may be required to travel to assist with Ground Engineering surveys.
Responsibilities
- Support the Middle East Ground Engineering team in the delivery of geotechnical consultancy projects to private and public sector clients;
- From a project management perspective the candidate will have a delivery role in the provision of guidance and assistance to internal and external clients, regarding geotechnical and geo-environmental related issues.
- Manage documentation and provide design assistance in the form of consulting and technical support to the client and project team from concept design through to construction.
- Assist in the design of geotechnical site investigations including recommendations for best intrusive techniques to be employed and specification of in-situ and laboratory testing.
- Assist in procurement of site investigation contractors.
- Undertake scheduling of geotechnical and chemical testing and also interpretation of the test results.
- Assist in the review of factual and interpretative geotechnical and geo-environmental reports produced by others.
- Assist in the production of geotechnical and geo-environmental factual and interpretative reports including the interpretation of geotechnical data.
- Assist in making recommendations relating to the choice of foundations including the use of ground improvement techniques.
- Assist in the preparation of specifications for Enabling, Shoring, Excavation, Ground improvement and Piling works.
- Assist in the review of tender returns and tender evaluations for enabling, shoring and piling works.
- Assist in the design and assessment of foundations, substructure and retaining/shoring walls.
- Assist in the provision of geo-environmental assessments including Phase 1, 2 and 3 including recommendations for assessment of ground-gas regime.
- Undertake geotechnical analysis including slope stability calculations, embedded retaining and shoring walls; pile design, ground movement assessments, evaluation of soil springs for use within structural design models and soil structure interaction using recognised international geotechnical software.
- On occasion undertake Ground Engineering surveys in the Middle East region;
- Prepare proposals for standalone Ground Engineering opportunities and contributing to multi-disciplinary bids;
- Ensure WSP Quality Management System (QMS) and Project Lifecycle compliance on all projects;
- Ensure that Health & Safety is embedded into all work practices in line with company policies;
- Develop expertise and stay abreast of developments in relevant technical field;
- Identify improvements (where possible) to enhance WSP I Parsons Brinckerhoff in India ME service to clients;
- Complete accurate timesheets by set deadline;
- Cross functioning among other disciplines as and when required;

Qualifications

- 5+ years of experience working in the Geotechnical field;
- Excellent quantitative and analytical skills, and proven ability to communicate results orally and in writing;
- Bachelor's degree in geotechnical or geo-science related field and have at least 5+ years post graduate experience in the Geotechnical discipline. Post Graduate Degree preferred.
- Membership of the ICE (or similar organisation);
- A willingness to travel to overseas countries within the region;
- Site investigation techniques with experience in supervising field investigation works a distinct advantage.
- Describing soil and rocks to international standards.
- An understanding of Geotechnical Interpretative Reports including recommendations for deep and shallow foundations and shoring works.
- An understanding of foundations within soils and rocks.
- An understanding the analysis of shoring walls including Diaphragm, Secant, Contiguous, King post etc.
- Knowledge of software packages such as WALLAP, Pdisp, Slope W or similar.
- An understanding of various ground improvement techniques.
- Experience of slope stability analyses using appropriate software.
- Tunneling experience.
- Understanding of geo-environmental assessments including Phase 1, 2 and 3.
- Construction experience in deep foundations, Bulk Earthworks, shoring and ground improvement etc.
- Any knowledge of Finite Element modelling including using Plaxis for example.
- GIS experience.
- Be able to efficiently plan, prioritise, act, and integrate activities into client and WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff systems, programs, and processes;
- Communicate and work cross-functionally with all levels of management and technical functions;
