Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Senior Design Engineer to join our RD&E Team. This role focuses on driving cost-reduction initiatives through innovative design optimizations and advanced cost-analysis techniques. Leveraging expertise in electromechanical components, VAVE, and FAST analysis, you will lead cost-effective design improvements while upholding quality and performance standards. Knowledge in various manufacturing processes, such as casting, forging, and sheet metal design, is essential to support feasibility and implementation discussions.
The employee will be part of the RAC Engineering organization in Danfoss, and will report to the local Engineering Manager and functional reporting to Director of Cost Down Projects.
Job Responsibilities
- Cost-Down Design Initiatives: Lead and execute design changes to reduce product costs without compromising quality or functionality.
- Advanced Cost-Down Analysis: Conduct VAVE (Value Analysis and Value Engineering) and FAST (Function Analysis System Technique) based on the SAVE methodology to identify function value cost improvements.
- Sustainability Focus: Integrate circular economy and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) considerations into cost-down activities to ensure alignment with sustainability goals.
- Manufacturing Knowledge: Apply a deep understanding of manufacturing processes, including casting, forging, and sheet metal design, to enhance design feasibility and optimize production.
- Component & Design Optimization: Use expertise with electromechanical components to refine designs for cost-effectiveness while maintaining performance.
- Hands-On Design: Utilize Inventor software for hands-on design work, making modifications in alignment with cost-down objectives.
- Idea Generation & Innovation: Lead idea generation workshops to engage cross-functional teams in brainstorming and evaluating cost-reduction ideas.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Procurement, Supplier Quality, and suppliers to ensure design feasibility and alignment on project goals.
- Project Management: Manage cost-down projects from start to finish, meeting deadlines and maintaining clear communication with all stakeholders.
- Documentation & Reporting: Document all design modifications, cost-saving results, and project updates, and report progress to management.
Background & Skills
- Education: Bachelor's/Masters degree in Mechatronics
- Experience: 8-10 years in design engineering focused on cost reduction, particularly with electromechanical components.
- Manufacturing Knowledge: Proficiency in sheet metal design is essential.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Inventor software for design and modification; strong understanding of VAVE and FAST analysis techniques.
- Workshop Facilitation: Skilled in leading idea generation workshops and collaborating across teams.
- Project Management: Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple cost-down projects effectively.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience working with European stakeholders.
- Soft Skills: Analytical thinking, problem-solving, and a collaborative approach to teamwork.
