We are now looking for a Sr. Data Analyst to join our team in Chennai!

As a Sr. Data Analyst within the Engineering Semantics team, you will contribute to driving continuous improvements in vocabulary management and semantics tagging to support Knovel, Elsevier's platforms for practicing engineers. You will work closely with interdisciplinary teams to translate Product and Data Science requirements for Technology and contribute to the expansion of data models. You will be responsible for managing engineering vocabularies in Knovel Content Management System (CMS) and lead discussions with Tech Teams on semantic tagging of engineering content and improvement of database structure. This entails combining engineering semantics with database design and data science.

In addition to that, you will be responsible for executing ML and (G)AI projects to derive meaningful insights from complex datasets and support the development of optimal search solutions. You will be joining an enthusiastic team, reporting to the Senior Manager of Engineering Content and you will be part of the Data Science Research Content Operations division.

Your Responsibilities

  • Define and implement best practices for semantic tagging of engineering content and work closely with Tech teams to define database requirements.
  • Work closely with interdisciplinary teams, including Data Scientists, Tech Teams, and Domain Experts, to support the business needs and contribute to the continuous improvement of Knovel database structure and Content Management System.
  • Contribute to design data models, vocabularies and knowledge graphs.
  • Execute and report on ML and data analytics projects to collect data insights that drive business decisions and goals.
  • Support the DS RCO team broadly beyond the engineering portfolio.

What You Should Bring

  • A master's degree in computer science or data science and 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis and data mining techniques.
  • Fluency in handling large datasets, in database design and in database management systems like SQL Server, MSSQL Server Management Studio or MySQL.
  • Strong skills in programming languages such as Python.
  • Experience working with Databricks or SPARK.
  • Familiarity in vocabulary management and semantic tagging including RDFS, SKOS-XL, SPARQL.
  • Knowledge of machine learning algorithms and applications in data analysis.
  • Capacity to design innovative solutions to data-related challenges.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (fluent English).
  • High level of accuracy in data handling and interpretation.
  • Ability to maintain and build-out relationships in a matrix and multicultural organization.
  • Strong analytical thinking and the ability to approach problems methodically.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work remotely, proactively and independently.
  • General familiarity with the engineering field is a plus.
  • Knowledge of industry standard best practices regarding book publishing is a plus.
