Role Overview:
The Senior Credit Manager for a Non-Banking Financial Company Microfinance (NBFC-MFI) is responsible for overseeing the credit function of the organization, ensuring sound credit risk management, and optimizing the company's lending portfolio. The role involves developing and executing a robust credit policy, managing the credit risk, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements while driving business growth through strategic lending solutions. The individual in this role will lead a team to assess, underwrite, and manage microloans effectively, with a particular focus on low-income segments, underserved markets, and small businesses.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement comprehensive credit strategies that align with the company's objectives and business growth plans.
- Establish and enforce credit policies, guidelines, and procedures to ensure effective risk mitigation and compliance with applicable regulations.
- Design and continuously refine credit risk frameworks tailored to microfinance products and target segments.
- Develop and oversee risk management tools and methodologies to assess creditworthiness, manage delinquency, and mitigate loan defaults.
- Regularly assess portfolio performance, identifying trends, and implementing corrective actions if necessary.
- Monitor loan disbursement, collections, and recovery processes to ensure compliance with the company's credit policies and timelines.
- Lead the credit underwriting process, ensuring that all loan applications are evaluated using sound financial analysis, credit scoring, and risk criteria.
- Approve or recommend approval for high-value or high-risk loans, ensuring they meet the company's lending criteria.
- Manage and lead the credit team, providing guidance, mentoring, and performance reviews to ensure that the team delivers effectively and in alignment with company goals.
- Set individual and team targets for loan origination, collections, and risk management performance.
- Collaborate with senior management, product teams, and the marketing team to align credit products with market needs while managing risk.
- Engage with external stakeholders such as regulators, auditors, and credit bureaus to ensure compliance with industry standards and laws.
- Regularly report to senior leadership and stakeholders on the performance of the credit portfolio and key risk indicators.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory and legal frameworks governing microfinance lending practices.
Key Skills & Competencies:
- Credit Risk Management: Strong understanding of credit risk assessment, mitigation strategies, and portfolio management.
- Analytical Skills: Expertise in financial analysis, credit scoring models, and risk evaluation.
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead, inspire, and manage a team effectively.
- Product Knowledge: Deep knowledge of microfinance products, including micro-loans, group lending, and SME financing.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with the regulatory landscape governing NBFCs and microfinance institutions.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with internal teams, management, and external stakeholders.
- Technology Savvy: Familiarity with credit risk management software, loan origination systems, and data analytics tools.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: MBA (Finance) or equivalent from a reputed institution, qualified CA will be preferred. A certification in credit risk management (e.g., FRM, CRM) is an added advantage.
- Experience: Minimum 10-12 years of experience in credit risk management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within an NBFC, microfinance, or a similar lending environment.
- Industry Knowledge: Experience working with microfinance, retail banking, or financial inclusion products, particularly in emerging markets or underserved sectors.
