Basic Function
- Lead the production editorial processes of front list titles as per slotted timeline, keeping cost within projected budget
- Key interface between the vendor, publishing manger & the author till the title gets published
KEY Responsibilities
- Lead production editorial process for the Front list titles in conjunction with publishing manager, and according to the revenue outlined
- Own and provide cost estimate for front list for P&L planning and GM computation
- Identify and train new vendors to expand the pool of existing vendors
- Ensure the cost incurred in a project(s) is within the estimated P&L(s)
- Content management: Constant communication with publishing managers, authors, development editors, and vendors (freelance copyeditors, typesetters, graphic designers, indexers) to ensure timely delivery of projects (per seasonality)
- Own and prepare style sheet and copy-editing guidelines for each title
- Maintain live trackers for all identified front list titles to keep milestones in check
- Identify and assign work to freelance copy editors and proofreaders and provide constant feedback to them while ensuring the quality of the manuscript per WK established standards
- Copyedit and proofread manuscripts/typescripts to ensure error-free content (wherever required)
- Supervise production process and ensure quality and timely delivery
- Oversee additions to standard template designs and page budgets
- Own and coordinate cover design with illustrator and designer and track cover cost
- Ensure that quality control measures are exercised wherever necessary
- Responsible for planning a publication's budget, including payout to vendors and freelancers (where necessary), and keeping a log of expenses along with ensuring timely payments
- Ensure proper archival of FL titles per WK policies
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Essential:
- Education: Postgraduate, having worked preferably in the STM sector, with atleast 8 years experience as a production editor
- Excellent copyediting and language editing skills
- Knowledge of various referencing styles
- Good interpersonal skills to deal with authors, vendors, and internal stakeholders
- Project and team management experience is must
- Skilled in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Preferred
- Knowledge of printing processes.
- Extended PC skills, XML, and electronic knowledge.
