Job Description
We are seeking a seasoned Senior Cloud Engineer to join our dynamic and innovative team. The ideal candidate will work within a centralized cloud operations group, focusing on optimizing cloud infrastructure and services to improve efficiency and reduce costs in a practice commonly called FinOps. This individual will play a crucial role in developing, managing, and scaling cloud-based systems and solutions that support the strategic objectives of Thomson Reuters.
About You
You're a fit for the role of Senior Cloud Engineer if your background includes:
- Collaborate within a centralized team dedicated to enhancing efficiency and reducing costs of cloud-based solutions across Thomson Reuters.
- Develop infrastructure in AWS or Azure using both code and console methods for testing and troubleshooting purposes.
- Offer technical expertise and guidance to team members, drawing from comprehensive knowledge in either AWS or Azure, or both.
- Serve as a point of contact or subject matter expert for technical issues within specific work streams of larger projects.
- Provide mentorship and coaching to junior technical staff.
- Assist in identifying and implementing short- and long-term technical solutions, including risk assessments and recommendations to business and technology leadership.
- Participate in the resolution of various technical challenges and ensure the implementation of recommended solutions meet stakeholder expectations.
- Deliver timely updates on team responsibilities within projects to management.
- Monitor project progress and maintain regular status updates using Microsoft Azure DevOps using Agile methodology.
- Actively engage in discussions, identify issues, and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
- Research and uphold technical standards and best practices.
- Develop milestones and dependencies to provide realistic estimates for project tasks.
About Yourself
You're a fit for the role of Senior Cloud Engineer if your background includes:
- Minimum 5 years of cloud experience, preferably in AWS or Azure.
- Possess one or more certifications: (AWS Certification at the associate level or higher)
- Microsoft Azure certification at the associate level or higher
- Proficiency in server OS, including Windows and/or Linux.
- Strong skills in Python or PowerShell (Python preferred).
- Experience with cloud infrastructure as code tooling.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Proven experience engaging with and presenting to various stakeholders, including project managers and internal customers.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and bridge gaps between technical and non-technical team members.
- Familiarity with high availability and disaster recovery solutions, architecture, and tools.
- Embrace a secure-by-design mindset and demonstrate understanding of security best practices.
- Willingness to develop an understanding of Thomson Reuters products, architecture, and associated costs.
- Ability to assess the cost implications of architectural changes in cloud infrastructure.
- Proficiency in identifying cost optimization opportunities in cloud and application architecture.
- Experience in creating, reviewing, and maintaining technical documentation for diverse technical audiences to ensure supportability and reusability.
