Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Cloud Database Administrator (DBA) to join our dynamic Cloud Infrastructure team. You have a background in managing cloud-based database systems, with a particular focus on Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure. As a Cloud DBA, you will help ensure the availability, performance, and security and cost-efficiency of our mission-critical database infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Configure, implementing and maintain highly available and scalable database solutions on AWS (MySQL and PgSQL RDS, DynamoDB, Aurora, Redshift) and Azure (SQL Database, Cosmos DB)
- Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement tuning strategies
- Maintain backup and recovery procedures to minimise data loss and downtime
- Implement and enforce security measures to protect sensitive data from unauthorised access or breaches
- Automate routine database tasks using scripting (e.g., Python, PowerShell) or infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools (e.g., CloudFormation, Terraform)
- Diagnose and resolve database issues to minimise impact on business operations
- Work with developers, system administrators, and other IT teams to ensure seamless integration of database solutions
- Stay abreast of the latest trends and technologies in cloud databases, particularly in the AWS ecosystem
- Identify and implement cost optimization strategies for cloud database resources
Minimum Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience as a DBA, with 5 years of hands-on experience with AWS database services (MySQL and PgSQL RDS, DynamoDB, Aurora, Redshift) and at least 1 year with Azure database services (SQL Database, Cosmos DB)
- AWS Certified Database - Specialty or Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate (preferred)
- Strong knowledge of SQL and database administration principles
- A solid understanding of cloud database pricing models and cost optimization techniques
- Proficiency in scripting (Python, PowerShell) and/or IaC tools (CloudFormation, Terraform)
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
