Preferred Background: Candidates with experience at ICAR (Indian Council of Agricultural Research) or its affiliated organizations are highly preferred.
Overall Purpose of the Job
To lead, strategize, and oversee agricultural management for sugarcane cultivation, harvesting, and improvement initiatives across large-scale estates. This includes developing sustainable practices, optimizing sugarcane yields and quality, managing cross-functional teams, and driving innovation to meet organizational goals within budgetary constraints.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Agricultural Management
- Develop and implement advanced sugarcane cultivation strategies to achieve optimal production, quality, and sustainability.
- Design and execute land development and expansion programs for sugarcane estates.
- Create and monitor long-term plans for sugarcane planting, harvesting, and crushing operations.
Research and Development
- Lead R&D initiatives focused on varietal development, cropping system optimization, and fertigation techniques.
- Implement innovative agronomic practices tailored to diverse environments, including irrigated and rain-fed conditions.
- Establish benchmarks for sugarcane yield improvement and disease resistance.
Risk Management and Sustainability
- Develop and enforce protocols to mitigate risks such as fire hazards, pest infestations, and cattle grazing.
- Promote environmentally sustainable practices in sugarcane cultivation and resource management.
- Ensure compliance with relevant agricultural and environmental regulations.
Stakeholder Engagement and Reporting
- Liaise with senior management, external stakeholders, and government bodies on agricultural development programs.
- Provide regular reports on sugarcane production, quality, and operational costs.
Required Skills and Competencies
- In-depth knowledge of advanced sugarcane cultivation and management practices.
- Proven expertise in land development and expansion.
- Extensive experience in R&D for sugarcane varietal development and quality enhancement.
- Proficiency in using modern agricultural technologies and machinery.
- Ability to strategize and execute sustainable agricultural practices.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities.
Education:
- Master's (M.Sc. Ag.) or Ph.D. in Agriculture, Agronomy, or related fields.
Experience:
- At least 15 years of hands-on experience in sugarcane cultivation, R&D, and estate management.
- Demonstrated track record of success in managing large-scale agricultural operations.
- Preferred Background: Candidates with experience in ICAR (Indian Council of Agricultural Research) or its affiliated organizations will be given priority.
