What You Will Do. As part of the corporate accounting and reporting team, you will report to the Accounts Receivable Manager and ensure that the books and records of the company remain complete and accurate for business decision making and financial reporting for our Commercial markets. In this role, you will maintain records, processes, procedures, and ensure timely application of cash with our Operations teams and other accounting team members, and occasionally review work of other team members as assigned while also performing reconciliations and other normal course Order-to-cash functions.
You will assist in streamlining accounts receivable processes by identifying areas for performance improvement for standardization and simplification, assist us in optimizing financial transactions and systems by performing reconciliation of payments and customer accounts, and share knowledge with other team members to build out a cohesive revenue full accounting cycle with other teams.. You must be a self-starter who can lead non-qualified accounting analysts, meet deadlines, challenge the status quo while maintaining a silent running state, and ensure the integrity of both revenue and accounts receivable results, and balance sheet reconciliations. You will collaborate cross-functionally with the Company to deliver results timely, efficiently, and accurately..
Key Accountabilities. What tasks you will perform:. Ensure integrity of accounting information for the Order-to-cash cycle including Accounts Receivable by recording journal entries and verifying/consolidating financial information by compiling and analyzing account information. Assist in the preparation of the aging analyses for the monthly bad debt provision and posting associated allowance and bad debt journals.. Partner with accounting personnel to ensure compliance with US GAAP, including preparation of journal entries.. Work closely with Operations (Billing, Remittance and Collections teams) and the IT/Analytics team to investigate any discrepancies in payments and utility/customer account balances in the billing system versus the general ledger.. Perform cash application for certain markets as assigned by Accounting Leadership.. Prepare monthly working papers and analyze transactions to determine corrective actions or adjustments.. Ensure assigned asset and liability accounts are reconciled on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis per the Companys Balance Sheet Integrity standards.. Prepare monthly analytical analyses and examine reasonableness of assigned accounts using trending, scanning, ratio, and other analytical procedures for both balance sheet and income statement accounts with proper relationships, including preparing remittance summaries and other billing data of markets used by management in Day Sales Outstanding (DSO) ratios analysis. Assist Accounts Receiable team to ensure timely completion of month-end activities, including investigating and resolving any issues related to the General Ledger, associated bank reconciliations and billing systems encountered by other AR teams as assigned..
Respond to inquiries from various departments regarding monthly departmental/regional reports.. Assist in interim and year-end audit preparations, and coordinate with other teams and external auditors to support information requests and explanations timely.. Tie source records to estimates and forecasts provided by other Finance teams, and lead research and explanation of account differences with the Finance and Operations teams.. Maintain and enhance the design of the Order-to-cash processes in collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with Just Energys control frameworks.. Proactively respond to business questions and propose solutions to various levels within the organization up to the Executive Leadership Team as requested.. Assist cross-functionally within the Finance team as requested.. What Experience We Ask For. We require:. A degree in accounting. A minimum of 5 years of experience in working in an Accounting or Audit related area of a business or an established and known public-accounting firm. A working knowledge of Excel, including building pivot tables, intermediate formulas, and use of an Enterprise Resource Planning system. A demonstrated ability to utilize SQL, including writing queries. A demonstrated understanding of accounting, control, and finance concepts. An ability to perform detailed journal entries and analysis and research accounts, perform and review reconciliations with limited coaching. Strong decision making based on quantitative measurements and providing analytical and reasoning capabilities on accounting information. A bias to listen, challenge, and learn versus assume without evidence. A self-starter with strong attention to detail and focus on meeting reasonable deadlines, with an ability to multi-task, prioritize issues and propose solutions to the Accounting and Finance Leadership Teams while working with limited coaching. The ability to perform work as both an individual contributor and lead a small team of non-qualified accounting analysts in strong working practices where required to ensure all deadlines are met and cash is applied accurately and timely.
We prefer:. A qualified accountant with Big 4 or U.S. listed company (or equivalent) experience. A working knowledge of US GAAP. A working knowledge of Great Plains. A higher-level experience in Excel including building VBAs or macros. Implementation experience of Financial systems/databases and change management abilities while maintaining a silent running function.
