The SAP HANA Administrator is responsible for the installation, configuration, administration, and maintenance of SAP HANA systems to ensure high availability, performance, and security of data. The individual in this role works closely with cross-functional teams to optimize database performance, manage backups and recovery, and troubleshoot issues to support business operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- SAP HANA System Management:
- Install, configure, and upgrade SAP HANA databases.
- Manage day-to-day database operations, including starting/stopping instances, performance tuning, and system monitoring.
- Ensure the optimal performance of the SAP HANA database by analyzing and addressing bottlenecks.
- Backup and Recovery:
- Implement and manage SAP HANA backup and recovery strategies.
- Perform regular backups and validate restore procedures to ensure data availability.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues related to backup and recovery operations.
- Performance Tuning:
- Monitor and tune SAP HANA systems to optimize performance and scalability.
- Analyze system logs and diagnostic information to proactively resolve issues.
- Identify and implement database optimizations to support high transaction volumes.
- Security Management:
- Administer user roles, authorizations, and security protocols in the SAP HANA environment.
- Apply SAP HANA patches and updates, ensuring compliance with security standards.
- Conduct periodic vulnerability assessments and implement remediation measures.
- System Monitoring & Troubleshooting:
- Implement and configure monitoring tools to track database health, performance, and resource utilization.
- Resolve database-related issues by troubleshooting and working with SAP support, when necessary.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of system configurations, procedures, and solutions.
- Data Integration and Migration:
- Support data replication and data integration between SAP HANA and other systems.
- Assist with database migration activities, including cloud or hybrid cloud environments.
- Collaboration and Support:
- Work with SAP Basis teams, network administrators, and developers to align on infrastructure requirements and system upgrades.
- Provide technical guidance and support to development teams on database best practices.
- Participate in project planning and implementation of SAP HANA projects.
- Patching and Upgrades:
- Plan and execute SAP HANA system patches, updates, and version upgrades to ensure the system is up to date with the latest features and security improvements.
- Disaster Recovery:
- Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans for SAP HANA systems, ensuring minimal downtime and business continuity during outages.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in SAP HANA administration and/or SAP Basis administration.
- Hands-on experience with SAP HANA installation, configuration, and management.
- Proficiency in SAP HANA Studio, SAP HANA Cockpit, and other administrative tools.
- Strong knowledge of SAP HANA database architecture, high availability, disaster recovery, and backup strategies.
- Experience with Linux/Unix operating systems and scripting for automation tasks.
- Familiarity with SAP systems, including SAP ECC, SAP S/4HANA, or BW on HANA.
- Experience with SAP Data Services, SAP SLT, and other data replication tools is a plus.

- Expertise in database performance tuning, query optimization, and memory management.
- Solid understanding of SAP HANA security, including user roles, privileges, and encryption.
- Proficiency in monitoring and alerting tools for database health and performance.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in working with cloud-based SAP HANA systems (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) is a plus.
- Certification in SAP HANA Administration or SAP Certified Technology Associate is a strong advantage.
