Job Description

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Sales Manager to lead and drive the Modern Trade sales strategy across Western India Region for RIO InnoBev.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and executing sales strategies to expand the brand's presence in local and national retail chains, achieving business goals, and ensuring sustained market leadership in the Modern Trade channel.

_Key Responsibilities:_
  • Strategic Planning & Execution:
Collaborate with senior management to develop and implement a robust sales strategy tailored to Modern Trade channels, including both local retail chains (e.g., Patel Retail, R K Bazaar, Wellness Forever) and national retail giants (e.g., Dmart, Reliance Retail).
  • Identify and capitalize on market opportunities, analyzing competitive activity and market potential across different regions and product lines.
  • Sales Growth & Market Leadership:
Drive business development initiatives to achieve and maintain market leadership in target territories, expanding into new geographies and optimizing sales penetration.
  • Manage Profit & Loss (P&L) responsibilities for the Modern Trade segment, ensuring alignment with overall company financial goals.
Set and achieve sales growth targets and Return on Investment (ROI) objectives for both Modern Trade and Quick Commerce channels.
  • Key Account & Channel Management:

Lead negotiations with key accounts and channel partners, establishing and maintaining strong relationships that enhance brand representation and sales outcomes.
  • Oversee the appointment and development of distributors, ensuring they are equipped to effectively manage stock inventory, claims, and timely product distribution.
  • Team Leadership & Development:
Build, lead, and motivate a high-performing sales team, including merchandisers and sales promoters, to achieve set objectives.
  • Foster a culture of excellence and accountability within the team, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Promotions, Merchandising & Market Intelligence:
Design and execute promotional campaigns, merchandising strategies, and other marketing activities to enhance brand visibility and drive sales.
  • Monitor competitor activities and market trends, providing insights and recommendations to the leadership team.
Ensure effective utilization of allocated promotional budgets to maximize sales impact and strengthen the brand's market position.
  • Operations & Financial Management:
Manage accounts receivables, ensuring timely debt collection and resolution of outstanding issues.
  • Ensure accurate pricing and work closely with the General Trade (GT) sales head and area managers to synchronize efforts across all retail channels.
Oversee the timely dispatch and replacement of products in line with company policy.
  • Contract Negotiation & TOT Management:
Negotiate favorable Terms of Trade (TOT) contracts with Modern Trade chains, ensuring mutually beneficial agreements that support long-term partnerships.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
Conduct regular market visits to monitor key outlets, liaising with local sales teams to address challenges and opportunities.
  • Provide timely reports and feedback to senior management on sales performance, market intelligence, and operational issues.
Manage Canteen Stores Department (CSD) operations, including finalizing MOUs, sales forecasting, and promotional planning.
  • Undertake any other responsibilities as assigned by the leadership team.


  • Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Commerce, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in Modern Trade sales, with a proven track record of success in the FMCG sector.


  • Skills & Competencies:
Strong market intelligence and networking abilities.
  • Excellent selling and negotiation skills, particularly in Modern Trade channels.
Proven experience in customer relationship management and business development.
  • Expertise in distribution management and handling key accounts.
Ability to lead and inspire a sales team, with strong organizational and strategic thinking capabilities.
  • Experience in negotiating and managing Terms of Trade in Modern Trade environments.
