Position Title: Restaurant Captain / Restaurant Supervisor
- Reports to: Restaurant Manager
As a restaurant captain you are responsible to promote and ensure guest satisfaction, maintain a safe and sanitary work environment and ensure only the highest quality products are being served.
Establishes rapport with guests to build guest loyalty and gather constructive feedback to ensure satisfaction of every individual guest. Also, to handle daily team member relations, and encourage problem solving by team members through proper training and empowerment.
- Restaurant Captain Duties and Responsibilities:
As a food and beverage service professional, your responsibilities include:
Greeting and Welcoming Guests
: Always greet and welcome guests promptly in a warm and friendly manner. Additionally, thank and give a fond farewell to guests, conveying anticipation for their next visit.
Assisting Guests
: Assist guests with table reservations and seating. Ensure that guests are serviced within the specified time.
Menu Knowledge
: Have a good knowledge of the menu and presentation standards. Be able to answer any questions regarding the menu and assist with menu selections.
Effective Communication
: Speak with guests and staff using clear and professional language. Answer phone calls using appropriate telephone etiquette.
Anticipating Guest Needs
: Anticipate any unexpected guest needs and react promptly and tactfully.
Service Techniques
: Always apply service techniques correctly. Serve food courses and beverages to guests.
Table Setup
: Set tables according to the type of event and service standards.
Order Management
: Record transactions and orders in Point of Sales systems at the time of order. Communicate with the kitchen regarding menu questions, wait times, and product availability. Relay additional meal requirements, allergies, dietary needs, and special requests to the kitchen.
Guest Satisfaction
: Check with guests to ensure satisfaction with each food course and beverages.
Clearing and Cleaning
: Responsible for clearing, collecting, and returning food and beverage items to the proper area. Maintain cleanliness of work areas, china, glassware, etc., throughout the shift.
Order Accuracy
: Review order dockets to ensure accurate and timely preparations for order requirements.
Billing and Settlement
: Present an accurate final bill to guests and process payments. Perform shift closing on the Point of Sales terminal and tally cash and credit card settlements.
Restaurant Maintenance
: Ensure that the restaurant is always kept clean and organized, both at the front and back of house areas. Implement hotel brand standards and SOPs consistently.
Collaboration
: Work with fellow staff and managers to ensure that the restaurant achieves its full potential.
Daily Responsibilities
: Complete the daily responsibilities set for each individual shift.
