About The Role
As a Product Development Research Scientist, you will drive innovation across multiple categories including Hair, Skin, Household Insecticide, Hygiene, Air Care, Deodorant & Fine Fragrances, and Sexual Wellness. Your role is pivotal in expanding GCPL's scientific expertise, and creating market-leading product differentiators that set new industry standards. This position requires regular interaction with the Innovation/Design Team, Marketing functions, and direct reporting to the Product Category Head. Additionally, you will interface with the Global R&D Head to build relevant programs by collaborating with academia and higher institutes of learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop a thorough understanding of pre-formulations, prototyping, and product development across various dosage forms
- Strong technical expertise and hands-on experience in at least a couple of the mentioned categories are essential
- Innovate and conceptualise disruptive ideas within relevant categories, building a vibrant New Product Development (NPD) pipeline based on consumer insights and category challenges
- Lead projects with academia to strengthen GCPL's science base, exploiting these learnings for commercial advantages
- Participate in pilot plant and plant-level scale-up activities, ensuring smooth transitions from development to production
- Document the product development pathway through detailed reports and dossiers.
- Collaborate and coordinate with various functions including Innovation/Design Team, Marketing, and external academic partners
- Utilise wet and instrumental analysis techniques to characterise and predict product behaviour over time
- Follow and understand protocols/test methods to measure both functional and aesthetic performance
- Analyse and evaluate competitor products to identify potential opportunities for innovation
- Navigate the challenges of demonstrating strong innovative capabilities within the category by quickly spotting product opportunities and defining rapid development roadmaps
- Regular interaction with Innovation/Design Teams and Marketing functions
- Collaboration with academia and higher learning institutes on category-relevant projects
- Demonstrate innovative capabilities and build a robust NPD pipeline
- Identify product opportunities based on consumer insights and develop rapid product development strategies
Who are we looking for
Education
- M.Pharm in Pharmaceutical Chemistry/Pharmaceutics, M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry/Pharmaceutical Chemistry, M.Tech in Chemical Engineering, or Ph.D. in Pharmacy/Chemistry
Experience
- 7-10 years of experience in formulation development, preferably in Hair, Skin, Household Insecticides, Hygiene, Air Care, Deodorant, Fine Fragrances, or Sexual Wellness categories.
Skills
- Analytical abilities coupled with an understanding of and ability to use statistical tools
- Must possess a sound understanding of product formulations, consumer expectations/insights, as well as, gaps in delivery of existing formats
- Some level of consumer interaction to understand consumer needs
- An appetite for learning, open mind for innovation, questioning status quo, ability to think out of the box
- Ability to work in a team
- Ability to demonstrate the practical use of knowledge base in Innovation Projects
- Strong Interpersonal skills
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- An understanding on regulations governing cosmetics
