This is a full time (36.5 hours/week) fixed term contract up to 2 years, ending no later than 30 June 2027. Extension may be possible subject to funding.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on modelling and control of wind energy systems, power systems, and hydrogen systems. You will undertake independent and collaborative research with other PDRAs and PhD students and will be expected to write up your research for publication. You will be expected to deal with any management/administration problems that may arise from the project and to produce journal and conference publications, ensuring that the project objectives and deadlines are met.

About You

You hold a Bachelors degree and PhD (or expect to be awarded a PhD shortly) in the fields of control engineering, electrical engineering, hydrogen systems, or wind energy. You should have strong experience in modelling and control of power systems, wind energy and/or hydrogen systems. You must have a developing research profile with the ability to publish high quality research outputs and be able to contribute to the development of funding proposals.

You are expected to have excellent IT skills, including the demonstrable ability to use IT to write technical research papers and make presentations. You are also expected to have strong experience with modelling and simulation tools and platforms (e.g. PSCAD, PowerFactory, or MATLAB/Simulink,) for power systems and renewables. Experience with development of real-time simulations and hardware-in-the-loop testing is highly desirable. You are also required to be an excellent communicator with strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work well within a team.

If you are near submission or have recently submitted your PhD but have not yet had it conferred, any offers of employment will be made as Research Assistant at the top of level 5 of the University grade structure. Upon receipt of evidence of the successful award of your PhD, you will be promoted to Research Fellow on the first point of level 6 of the University grade structure.
