We are currently seeking a
Rehabilitation Superintendent to join our team on a permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 21/14 Roster from Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Buka, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Wewak, Vanimo or Tabar group of Islands.

Reporting to the Manager Rehabilitation.
The Rehabilitation Superintendent is responsible for ensuring all Rehabilitation obligations on-site are met in accordance with regulations and industry and company standards. This role is centred around environmental sedimentation risks assessments and the implementation of their corrective actions, including reporting and ensuring compliance with both legislative and internal environmental requirements.
The opportunity
Technical Accountabilities
- Leading safe work practices by ensuring safe work conditions and practices in the Department, proactively investigating all safety and health concerns and implement continuous improvement in safety.
- Implementing a risk management framework to reduce impact of existing mining activities on freshwater and marine ecosystems.
- Engaging with operational departments to implement proactive management systems to mitigate impact of new site developments.
- Provide support and participate in executing studies to determine and manage long term impacts of mining operations, i.e. ARD, sedimentation etc.
- Providing timely, accurate and relevant Rehabilitation and Environmental related advice and reports to the Rehabilitation Manager.
- Ensuring Simberi Rehabilitation Department meets all relevant internal and external Rehabilitation related compliance obligations.
- Provide leadership to the Rehabilitation Department team to continuously enhance field and administration operations and implement rehabilitation strategies / plans in achieving overall set targets.
- Lead the execution of Rehabilitation Department improvement projects to meet legal and regulatory requirements through innovations.
People Accountabilities
- Ensure that staff are effectively utilized and that team members receive the necessary training and development to perform their roles efficiently.
- Provide guidance, act as a technical resource, and mentor team members while ensuring their work aligns with the company's strategic and business objectives.
- Oversee the implementation and continuous monitoring of performance and development plans for all direct reports.
- Take responsibility for initiating disciplinary measures or recognizing achievements for team members under direct supervision.
- Consistently promote and follow site Health, Safety, and Environment policies by demonstrating and encouraging safe work practices.
Financial Accountabilities
- Assist the Rehabilitation Manager with providing input towards the Rehabilitation Department Budget.
- Ensure that the department's monthly operational expenditure is within budget.

Essential
- Behaviour consistent with St Barbara's Values
- Degree qualification or higher in Environmental Science, Science, Agriculture or Forestry Science
- Minimum 10 years experience in a senior mine land rehabilitation role in the extractive, construction or government sectors with earthworks supervision as a minimum requirement.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team of disturbed land rehabilitation professionals
- Demonstrated a high level of knowledge and understanding of environmental legislation with a focus on operational implementation and compliance
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to influence and motivate others
- Proficient and fully conversant in all Microsoft Office Applications.
- Ability to multitask and play a key role within a demanding and challenging environment.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Proven problem-solving capability and prepared to accept responsibility.
- Demonstrate knowledge of relevant environmental acts and regulations
- Strong administration and coordination capability.
- Must have a Current Class 6 PNG Driver's License or equivalent
