Areas of responsibility -
- Team Leadership: Manage and lead a team of retail designers, providing guidance, support, and mentorship. Set clear objectives, foster a collaborative work environment, and facilitate professional development opportunities for team members.
- Retail Design Strategy: Develop and implement a comprehensive retail design strategy aligned with the company's goals and brand identity. Ensure that the design strategy is consistent across all retail locations and effectively reflects the company's values and customer experience objectives.
- Project Management: Oversee the entire lifecycle of retail design projects, from concept development to execution. Coordinate with internal stakeholders, external vendors, and construction teams to ensure timely delivery of projects within budgetary constraints.
- Design Standards and Guidelines: Establish and maintain design standards and guidelines for retail locations. Ensure compliance with building codes, regulations, and industry best practices. Continuously evaluate and improve design processes and workflows to optimize efficiency and quality.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with various teams such as store operations, marketing, visual merchandising, and real estate to integrate design initiatives seamlessly into retail operations. Provide input and support for new store openings, remodels, and renovations.
- Vendor Management: Manage relationships with external design agencies, contractors and suppliers. Negotiate contracts, monitor performance, and ensure adherence to quality standards and timelines.
- Budget and Resource Allocation: Develop and manage the retail design operations budget, ensuring optimal allocation of resources. Monitor costs, track expenses, and identify areas for cost-saving opportunities without compromising design quality.
- Trends and Innovation: Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and innovative design practices within the retail sector. Evaluate their potential application and recommend strategies to incorporate new concepts and technologies into retail design projects.
- Quality Assurance: Establish and implement quality control measures to ensure consistency and excellence in retail design deliverables. Conduct regular reviews and audits to identify areas for improvement and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Skills & Years Of Experience
- Bachelor's or master's degree in architecture, Interior Design, or a related field.
- Proven experience in a senior design management role within the retail industry.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a diverse team of designers.
- Excellent project management abilities, with a track record of successfully delivering multiple projects on time and within budget.
- In-depth knowledge of retail design principles, spatial planning, construction processes, and building codes.
- Proficiency in design software and tools, such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative
- Suite, or similar applications.
- Strong business acumen, with the ability to align design strategies with organizational objectives.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal stakeholders, external vendors, and senior management.
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic work environment and manage competing priorities effectively.
- A keen eye for aesthetics, attention to detail, and a passion for creating exceptional retail experiences.
